have hydro'ed my 3.5 v8 disco 1 lucky it wasnt revving very hard and appears to have done not much damage , compression test reveals all okay, had the vitals , air aprk and fuel but would not start wich lead me to look at timing.. sure enough the dizzy was stuffed , the vac advance unit looks to be at fault from what i can see of it. springs broken etc. , what i was wondering with distributors is there anything i should look for , do i replace it with a genuine or whatnot as i have heard some horror stories about ebay ones.. should i replace the amplifier wile im there too? i have sorted everything else out , carpet , seats , all oils changed etc too.

yeah already on the way i got very lucky, i didnt have much choice, i walked the crossing first it wasnt too bad but i dropped a wheel off line of where i walked and things got very hairy very fast.
I would think about a scorcher dizzy from performance ignition here in Melbourne, based on a bosch unit it will be more reliable than a lucas and cap/rotor will be available from any auto parts place.
