    D1 300TDI auto towing

I am looking at buying a full sized caravan to replace my Jayco poptop and am wondering what restrictions there are for D1s and caravans. I am looking at a van with a Tare weight of 2140 kgs with electric brakes, my disco has airbags on the rear.

    Any advice?

    Gazz

I would possibly consider looking into upgrading the gearbox cooler as the original ones aren't very efficent. Do a search for D1 and P38 cooler.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Thanks Juno, Dullbird and Damien for your advice, I intend pulling the radiator and flushing it as the old girl does warmup on hills during hot days with the aircon on so if the radiator is stuffed I'll be replacing it. We is the gearbox cooler?

I borrowed my parents 1200kg caravan once to go to Bright, towed fine at 110 on the hume but took a while to get there. Hills killed it and would have liked a weight distribution hitch to prevent so of the bobbing up and down like a rollercoaster when the road was bumpy, fuel economy will take a hit but still better than a V8 disco. Personally i wouldnt want to tow anymore than a camper trailer just for the strain on the vehicle and auto trans.

I have a V8 auto on LPG. towing the car trailer with a car on it is ok. When speed starts to drop off to about 95 on a hill, I move gearbox from 4th (which is overdrive) to 3rd which is direct drive. It will then go up most hills with a minimun of speed loss, and no overheating even if its 38 outside.
