The filter it is the cheaper part by far, the injectors cost about $ 100 ea form OS and the pump $ 1700 !!
If you are concerned about the cost of the filter or protecting the engine fit a primary filter on the water trap at the rear of the Disco.
In my Defe the service was not done for the 100000 km even if the previous owner paid for them. The dirt by passed the filter and ruined the pump and injectors :(
I recommend draining the water separator every 5K Km and filter every 10K Km.
if you're operating in wet conditions, in swampy offroad stuff or are filling up from dubious servos then drain the separator more often.
There is a coarse filter mesh available that goes in the water separator.
I fitted a series 3 diesel filter to the water trap. All you need to do is remove the middle section and get a longer bolt that holds it all together. I changed that filter every 10k and the original every 20k. I never had a issue doing change schedule.
all my filters get changed with the service every 5000k
