Ummm not sure. My guess would be that the injector is letting part of the combustion process past the seal and this has heated the head... not sure...

I agree the valve cooking could be due to high EGTs but the cracks about the 'jector and glow port are really common on the 300 heads. They can leak through to the jacket as JC was hinting at. Due to the rake of the ports the alloy is remarkable thin at the point where they crack... could probably be considered normal wear and tear...

Personally Id say new head time Klappers and I wouldnt reuse those valves... by internet picture judgement anyways!!!

I wasnt going to reuse the valves.. I was going to get the head serviced and let the cylinder head experts make the call as to whether I reuse the head.

    New head = 1300 delivered

Klappers,Great photos........pity about the subject.I hope the $1300 is for a new head ready to be fitted. If it is just the price of a bare head check out my post http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...soft-head.html Turners are very good to deal with,I spoke to Freda on the phone, great advice.Make sure you bleed the cooling system thoroughly.....takes a few goes!!
