I'm definitely not too worried about a couple of leaks, my last car was a '67 falcon which was great but it certainly had some good leaks on it! Just knowing how to fix them might give me something to shoot for...the Disco is already in great shape but I figure I can have a bit of fun with it and see just how much I can fix her up in the meantime

What happened at the roadworthy you got? Oil leaking is a roadworthy thing.
Don't tell me they pressure washed the underneath so there was no oil at inspection time?
I reckon not many landies would pass a roadworthy test with oil leaks

Minor oil leaks can easily be fixed by lots of dirt road driving. The dust seals/soaks 'em right up .

Well, that's my excuse to go offroad lots anyway .

I had a leak free disco until yesterday. I got it serviced and now there is a little black puddle in the garage.

Probably they spilt oil when removing the filter or the sump plug is not sealing correctly

I rang the mechanic and he said the same thing, spilt oil when removing filter. I'll keep an eye on it.

Being six months since my service I don't think spilt oil is the cause of the oil slick on the driveway. Since the leaks first appeared after a service my immediate thought was that maybe they didn't tighten something when they changed some fluid. If this was the case it would narrow down the suspects to the things that would most likely have been done on a major service. I just don't know what they are. Any ideas? Of course it may just be a coincidense that the oil started leaking the day after the service but I think not.

After re-reading this thread I'll go out and take a good look at what colour the fluid actually is.

I have since got a bit daring and started looking after the mechanical side of things myself. Replaced a clutch slave cylinder and did my first oil change.

One small step for man one giant leap for Disco Brian.

Pretty happy with my work so far so now I want to get stuck into this baby and get her in tip top shape. So I am going to work my way through the maintenance schedule in my manual and see how she comes up.

Hopefully it doesn't turn into an expensive excuse to buy tools.

my disco with 212mm on it is leak free and doesnt use any fluids between services.
I change the oil every 5000km and can still read the dipstick marks when it is due to be change. thats on a 300tdi with a full history.
