I would like to know the issues with the 94 to 95 models also,and in regards to the abs how do you steer clear of abs when all the models from 96 have abs fitted as standard?

Met a basic 97 V8 D1 last year without ABS.

Any D1 with a few km will probably need the cooling system gone over, radiator, viscous fan clutch, hoses etc. The ignition amplifier may drop dead at any moment, upgrade recommended.
I can't say I have noticed any difference in reliability across the Disco range, that's just me though. I don't see that many that go off road.

Nope, my 98 tdi doesnt have abs, there was a period sometime in the honda ownership years where there were more electrical problems than previously or after, 99% of problems were sorted by 96 and apart from the usual wear n tear items 96-98 seem to be the most reliable and have a better build quality- if thats possible with a landy.

you cannot by pass any safety systems on a motor vehicle by law... ABS is a safety feature

I too have a '98 Disco and it doesn't have ABS. It hardly has any brakes at all but that's another issue...perhaps someone has installed a switch that bypasses the brake booster and I just need to find it so I can switch it back ;)
