OEM propshafts for the D2 are GKN (also owners of Hardy Spicer Ltd UK) which are a tier 1 provider of driveline parts for LR, meaning they exclusively R&D (thence possessing design rights) and manufacture this family of products & there are no alternative OEM providers.

There are a few high quality non-OEM propshaft manufacturers but their products are not the most cost effective solution for the common owner (i.e. Bailey Morris or Tom Wood)

Shjtpart claims to sell OEM propshafts but they are NOT GKN and definitely nowhere near OEM quality. Hopeless junk IME.

Buying a genuine TVB000220 front prop for your D2 is IMHO the way to go. Alternatively could have your original prop rebuilt (3 UJs & centre bearing) & rebalanced.

thanks, i had been thinking along the tc lines, will read through it and it will be on my list of things to consider once ive finished testing the drive line post gear box.

Yeah Tombie suggested I replace the TC a while ago. Better fuel etc.

I don't mind paying for the TC but the labours probably going to be more than the part....bugger.

its not that hard, ive done a manual gearbox/tc on a 91 v8 disco, i recon an auto may even be easier if it is smaller as it seems but i think it is heavier.

i did it with an engine hoist in the passenger door, but i dont think you get that hole with an auto...

While the uprated TC was a very worthwhile upgrade and among the gains was the solving of my TC shuddering problems, regrettably it DID NOT eliminate the dreaded droning / booming in the 2000-2400 rpm range.

On a side note the new genuine flex plate installed during the TC work gave up after a few months (remap guilty?) & ended up replacing it with (2) custom made steel flex plates (back to back for increased flexibility yet able to retain shape).

Wow, Matt it's a small world after all. Thanks for your update! I have been exchanging emails with Dave from Ashcroft transmissions and he did not want to put a statement here to claim this would be THE solution. Seems he's correct. Must say it is dissapointing to read swapping the TC did not eliminate the resonation. Since Defenders or Manual Disco's not seem to have the problem you'd expect something in the ZF to cause it.

If you just touch the rear prop shaft when the rpm's are in the sweet spot it buzzes tremendously, a really aggressive resonation. Compare that with a mate's Defender - nothing of the like in any rpm.

Everybody is having issues with their handbrake shoes, that is because the resonance is the strongest at the rear of the LT230. I once tried to remove the TV damper on the right side of the LT230 and then the vibration/resonance was REALLY unbearable. If we could shift the resonance point/frequency by altering the weight of the TV damper or the rear prop shaft (more difficult as needs balancing) we might be able to reduce the resonance.
