    That is the one.

The new propeller shaft incorporates a revised sliding joint, which uses ball bearings to reduce the sliding resistance of the propeller shaft under torque.

Interesting, thanks for posting that Paul.

Following that line of thinking, driveshaft wear could therefore be contributing to the "audible boom".

I'm still thinking it's more engine related even though the vibration is hardly noticeable at higher speeds when the engine is spinning around 2250 RPM. On the other hand, the drone is not readily noticed when revving the engine whilst stationary.

Has anyone with cdl tried removing one driveshaft at a time to see if things improve? (sorry to many posts here to check)

    Regards

It could well be engine related.

I recently switched from a chipped MSB ECU to a NNN version and had the factory map installed for a week or so. What I noticed was a very obvious drop in the amount of vibration when accelerating through the 2250rpm as the auto shifted up. I've now got a Td5Inside remap on the ECU and it's not quite as good as stock but far better than the old ECU. The map I'm running is a bit less aggressive so I'd have to guess that the vibration is partly related to power/torque and possibly fuelling more generally.

The map I'm currently running is based on a non-ECD3 EU3 map which I think was designed for the Non-EGR D2a's sold in South Africa. The D2 has been update with 3-way accelerator and 4-aap, and this has eliminated all so-called "ghost faults" you get with running EU3 maps on EU2 engines. This has made the engine smoother and resolved the de-EGR clatter at light throttle, and seems to have slightly reduced the drone at cruising speeds. I certainly notice the whine from the TC more since I changed maps, which either means the TC has got worse or the other noises have gotten less

    cheers
    Paul

    Hello
I have a rumble and possible rattle under my disco 2. It sometimes thumps under acceleration. I have just replaced front propshaft and noticed 3-5cm of flex in the rubber mounts around the transfer case. The problem still exists.

    Is this normal?
Btw , engine mounts have been replaced to.
    Thanks.
    Ben.

I think there have been a couple of comments to the effect that pulling the front shaft sometimes makes things a lot quieter. But that doesn't mean it is the driveshaft.

Dropping the shaft removes the load from the TC front output shaft and the front diff.

    Hi Rudolino,

You will need to sift through this thread and see what applies to your car and what does not. Seems to be a td5 vibration at around 2250 rpm. The only question is how to minimise it. New engine mounts & gearbox mounts in particular can help mitigate the problem. Other structures seem to pick up the vibe including the hand brake and some find adjusting this stops their problems. Oil in the injector loom is another fix that helps sometimes. Seems the jury is out regarding replacing the harmonic balancer. Good luck.

All d2 TD5 have a rough spot at approx 2250 rpm,i had three new and they all did it from new.It is impossible to eliminate totally, but as others have said, heap of info on this site about this.

There may be ways to reduce it,particularly in an older vehicle where things have worn, but getting rid of it is impossible.

    td5 rough spot at 2250

Ok so it looks like we have to live with a rough spot or vibration of some sort. next question, has anyone tried to drop in a modern diesel into a disco? ive driven diesels since 2004 and love them. would love to try converting a p38 to a diesel engine at some stage as they are becoming cheaper to buy in their v8 forms. I would love to get my hands dirty. But d2 td5s dont come cheap enough.
