Make all the bolt holes a little larger[makes up for the angle as the bolts protrude from the snorkel],use locktight on the studs in the snorkel,get some sikkaflex for the sealant[use heaps] I used a stainless self tapper to pull the collar into place on the body[instead of the rivett]. Finally I used a cutout piece of heavy duty fly screen mesh[the black painted wire stuff] behind the intake grill--stops the bugs. For the large cut out used the hole saw and dremmel blade and grinder, then painted all the edges with a jointing compound. Have fun and double check your work before you drill,make sure the template is neat on the panel near the windsreen pillar...

I finally got around to installing my snorkel and the first instruction is to check that the template matches the snorkel.
As you can see from the attached pics the holes are a bit out. If you line up the two holes at one end, the holes at the other end are about 7 or 8mm out:eek:.
Is this normal or should I chase up a new template from the supplier?

mine was the same, as I told the other fellow make the holes larger than those on the template to allow for the curvature of the body and snorkel ie the template is flat the fender and snokel body are curved

Just a word of warning in the future.

I fitted my own safari when I bought the car new in 2001 and I used plenty of Sikaflex , neat job and all's good...except recently I had to replace a broken windscreen.
The A-pillar exterior black trim has to be removed to do this ..and you guessed it ..hidden behind the snorkel.
I took it to the O'briens repair place as agreed with the Insurer and the bloke freaked ....but I said lend me the tools and I will remove the snorkel.

Remember all that excess Sikaflex I used many years ago..well it still works!!!!
A sharp blade and persistence needed. Also had to drill out the rivets holding the snorkel bracket on the a-pillar and get my hands up behind the plastic guard liner to remove all the bolts.
Why do I use locktite/sikaflex so generously??? I ask myself.
Anyway the powdercoating on the original bracket had started to pack it in so I used this opportunity to make a new stainless steel bracket/sandblasted and painted black..all fixed now.

Ive been wrestling with this myself, the issue of the bracket being rivetted through the plastic windscreen trim, preventing windscreen change (easily). Anyone have any clever ideas for alternative mounting?

It must be a bigger issue than just the pillar bracket if they had to remove the whole snorkel.

I believe it is important to have good access to the windscreen refit.
I think there have been posts about leaking screens due to poor fitting????

Physically, the snorkel hangs off a bracket pop rivetted throught he screen trim and into the A-pillar( under the door rubber).
It also sits tightly over the A-pillar trim and to lever it away for screen access, also requires undoing all the unseen mounting bolts along the length of the front guard. ( about x8 ???)
By that stage there is only the Sikaflex/ air coupling bit up front left to do. The Sikaflex is so tough that it also makes it hard to pull the snorkel clear of the screen.
With the snorkel fully removed windscreen access is OK ..so you just bite the bullet.
Believe me, I was looking for the easiest solution ...given that I was on the forecourt of the screen factory without my usual tools etc.

I assume you've printed off the instructions from the internet - pretty straightforward following these.

One mod that I did was to enlarge the size of the hole in the inner skin of the guard which is the most restrictive point - I then used concertina clothes dryer exhaust ducting to connect the snorkel to the airbox.

have any of you that said you have a template for d2 safari snorkle still got it?
appreciate if anyone has one I can borrow.
