    More articulation D2

Ok i have a stock 00 v8 manual with ACE and no sls, So my question is how do i get more articulation? Im looking at getting a 2" lift soon, is that all i have to do to get more flex or is there more to it.

    Thanks,
    Jason.

    Hi Jason,
As much as you want usually comes to as much as you can afford.
In standard for the shocks limit the travel, longer ones increase travel, then the springs, while they may droop they don't actually push on the ground. Longer springs will fix this. Then the brake hoses need to be longer. Longer again will mean that tailshaft splines need to be longer and angles of radius arms etc need to change. Then it starts to get to shock mounts because if the axle goes down further, when it comes up to the bump stop it destroys the shock. Because longer extended length also means longer compressed length. Then you can start looking at spring location cones etc etc. The list goes on. 2" coils and some that are a little longer to match will work fine. Bilstein to a 2" longer shock. Google this BE5B994 and BE5B995 Rovacraft also stock the Terrafirma 2" longer for the D2.
The D2 shock is a little limited because they have pressed bushes not usual rubber ones.
    Good luck
    Chris

For the 2" lift and since i see you are on the coast i would be going to see shane at suspension stuff and he will sort you out with a mates rates kit which a number of users on here have fitted to their d2's, myself included, and only have positive things to say. My only gripe is the rear shocks in the kit (lovells) do limit the down travel.

As for what wom954 was saying they are completely right however there are a few things that they mentioned which dont apply to you with a d2 and the 2". Dislocation cones are not required, nor is brake or abs extensions. The standard driveshafts will be fine as will the radius arms and bump stops. These sorts of things dont start becoming an issue until you go past a 4"-5" lift (see discothrashers car) but having said that dislocation cones i dont think will ever be needed on a d2, at least not with the watts link and standard arms.

As That Kid said, I would change the rear tail shaft, from the rotor flex joint to the d1 uni, this part will wear out since your on the coast, Ricks 4wd can help you out, number is 0755 966662.
Your abs and sensor lines should be ok, you can un clip the sensors from the body for a little more slack if needed, zip tie where needed.I can not remember if you have to space your front cross member or not for a 2" lift, I run a 5" lift and its spaced 50mm.Some do extend there bump stops 25mm, that's personal choice
Good luck, you will love the results

The car is our family fun so i dont have a bucklet load of cash to spend, so i really want to make the most of what the car has to offer, i will be getting my lift from the suspension stuff shop, and then some 32" tyres and that should get me most places without to much trouble, Would moveing my bump stops give me more articulation, i go to ricks now for various things. Just want to make the most of what i have without spending to much money.

    Thanks,
    Jason.

No - moving your bump stops will give you LESS articulation....you might need to move your bump stops if you fit bigger tyres (so they dont hit the guards) or if you fit longer travel shocks (so you dont bottom out the shock and break it).

a suspension lift doesnt increase your travel, it only makes the car sit higher.

Landys have very good stock suspension travel, it takes a few changes to improve it.

Why not knock on Slunnie's door for a nice tutorial about more flex?

Raising the bump stops 25mmis to stop the potential of the springs binding and/or the new shocks bottoming out, a lot of people don't bother.

You will get more articulation lifting 2", but if you keep going there are limiting factors for articulation on the D2's, modding the Watts link and the Radius and trailing arm bushes. These (problems) should not be an issue with a 2" lift

Do ring Ricks about the tail shaft as you will come unstuck

    Hope this helps

im not too sure if the tailshaft is going to be a big deal with only the 2" lift baffle, mine never seemed to give me much grief. I only went to the uni option with the change of dif ratios. I wouldnt worry about the tailshaft until it really needs it.

You will need to space the front cross member however.

    wish i had ACE!
