Centre diff lock!
Hi
Can you pls recommend my next mod on my 2001 TD5. I have a budget of around $1,000 and she already has a safari snorkel, bull bar, driving lights, new AT's and a cargo barrier. Additionally, I have some recovery gear and an air compressor but no winch.
I use the car everyday but want to make it more robust off road. Already considered a rear ARB air locker (is this a good idea or should I look to get a lockable centre diff conversion) or an 1800mm ARB roof rack so would much appreciate some advice on where I should be spending my money or whether I should save some more for a different more effective mod?
Cheers

Centre diff lock!
Thanks, is that realistic within my $1k budget or should I be setting some more aside?
Cheers

Yep was quoted around $1,600 for the ARB locker so a bit over budget as you rightly say.
The mod is more for an improvement off road. I'll enquire at my local specialist for a price on a CDL as I don't think too much modification is required?

How about a 2" suspension lift ?? New coils & shocks all around for some extra ground clearance and a bit better articulation.
If it's got SLS, new front shocks + springs, new shocks for the rear, and some SLS bag spacers (See user Tombie2).
$1000 should roughly cover that.

Going ... going ... almost gone ... GONE !! ... 2004 D2a Td5 Auto "Classic Country" Vienna Green

Get the CDL hooked up.
If you put an air locker in the rear that's great. But if you break a front axle, you still stop. At least with the CDL the rear still gets drive.

Thanks guys
A couple of suggestions which will make a big difference. I'll go for the CDL first and then the suspension upgrade, my D2 is a coil sprung model so shouldn't find too many dramas here but I'll trawl through the relevant threads for some hints.

As it's an '01 - there's a good chance that it might be a little more complicated (and costly) than just getting the "CDL hooked up". There's a very good chance that there isn't any CDL there to "hook up" in that model (I know there isn't in mine).
In that case, he will first need to buy and install a CDL, and then get it "hooked up".

That's true. I was being a bit "glass half full". I think the change happened sometime in 2001 because I have a friend who had an '01 with the internals, and another without... all rather confusing really. (mine is an '02 and it didn't)
You will need to either feel for the nut, or check the serial number.
