Try the bottom of the LH B pillar.
I've just realised I cant find my compliance plate.....there is a vehicle id plate in front of my radiator but I cannot find my compliance plate. any clues where to look? I'm assuming its a 1999 model delivered in Cairns in Sept2000. does anyone know if the vehicle identification number gives a clue to build date?
Try the bottom of the LH B pillar.

The Compliance plate is located in front of the brake Booster on the drivers side of the vehicle.
It is pop riveted to the wheel arch panel, it will most likely be covered in sand, dirt etc.
Cheers.
mine was covered in anti-rust fishoil or summit similar from the last owner who blew it everywhere.
hmm, just had a thought. the above begs the question. how thorough was the roadworthy certificate when i bought it from the car yard. they supplied rwc and rego. but can't have used the compliance plate as it was blackened over.
thanks guys.I found it sniegy, just as you said hiding in dirt etc.....so its actually 08/00......wonder why its registered as a '99 model.....seems like the authorities couldn't find it either and just took a guess......
Build date is located behind the l/h/f headlight & pop riveted to the front apron, Compliance is when ordered via dealer from Processing centre.
May have been LR stock sitting at Processing centre for a little while before registering.
The VIN normally determines what model year it is.
AT a guess your VIN would read something like SALLTGM13XA123456
X being the determing factor that it is a 99MY vehicle.
I know this is an old post but this may not have been discussed elsewhere and is relevant.
Model years run from 1st Sept into the next calendar year. So anything built between 1 Jan and 31 August is considered to be the previous year model. ie Feb 89 car is an 88 model.

Hi James
As Scouse has said they never back date a year.
You are correct the "Production Year" starts in September and runs until the following August, however September through December 31 are vehicles of the subsequent year model.
i.e. my Nov 11 D4 is a MY12 and my Oct 84 RRc is a MY85.
It all goes back to the old days when manufacturers wanted to have the new model on the showroom floors on 1st January each year.
