your weekly amigo post

The amigoes must rate up there with tires as the no. 1 subject for disco 2 owners. The thing that gets me is the bit where mine can come on at the same point in a daily journey, or after sitting in the afternoon sun, all just as stevep experienced. Because they seem to stay away after a 4wd trip I went out yesterday afternoon and gave HDC a workout on a local hill---its very early days but amigoes have not reappeared. Hope I haven't found a temp. fix, it'll mean I won't get serious about a permanent fix again.

I've had two amigos occurances in 3 years all about 1 yr apart and have done nothing other than clear the codes for $50 (I dont have my own diagnostic equipment).

The causes have been 1 x mud, crap dust and vibration and 1 x squeeling brakes with diagnostic showing a low voltage signal (from all 4 sensors).

Had no issues now for a year (now I've done it!) but for the past year I have regularly worked the ABS modulator. Dont have to go off road to do this. Yesterday for example was a gentle down hill run on Princess St heading toward Chandler Hwy in Melbourne rush hr stop/go traffic. So into low range, HDC on, and let it do some work by, first leaving a gap to vehicle in from, then accellerating to about 15kmh, off the gas and let the HDC kick in to bring speed back to 7km/h and we all feel better for the "workout" :)

check this out for a money saver if you have to clear the faults regularly.

won't fix the cause but if it's just a brake squeal or bump it doesn't like could be handy...how's about a group buy:D

Just an update. Working the HDC hard kept the amigoes away for about 2 days-- now back. Lights clearing devices don't fix the whats causing the problem. I can clear them by restarting but I want to stop them visiting. I'll work thru everyones suggestions starting with the easy ones. Maybe just me but I don't feel 100% good about the disco when they are on.

Go to the Good OIl.

Lights that do not reset are associated with a sensor fault.
Lights that reset with ignition are associated with the modulator. Commonly the Shuttle Valve Switch.

Note " associated" Not always the exact fault. Check all earth points and all plugs first.

Dont buy a new SVS or Sensor until you know this to be the fault.
As in an earlier post, from your description, you are most likely suffering from a connection issue caused by
1/ Failure of the Shuttle Valve Switch. Basic test can be done in situ but a full test requires removal from the modulator & Test with a multimeter as per the excellent tutorial. Time = 1 hour with helper to support Modulator.
2/ Built in circuit fault from Wabco. Follow the tutorial again and spend about $15 for permanent fix. Time = 1.5 hrs. It is quite easy but Note: if you cant wire up spotties, dont touch.
3/ Simple bit of corrossion beginning on the SVS plug to modulator solenoid block (the plug has a seal but is not perfect). Test as per 1/ after cleaning.

None of these fixes require bleeding or opening of any circuit.

Now if the Amigos dont reset with ignition you will need diagnostics to steer you to the associated sensor. This could be caused by the plug, sensor or even hub.

Thanks strangy--sounds like the voice of experience & what you say makes sense. The lights would likely not be clearable on restart with a sensor problem. My idea was to see if my symptoms pointed to sensor end or abs/mod. & investigate from there. Looks likely to be abs/mod with connections or earth probs.
But I am going to try Fluids suggestion this weekend...crazy/strange things happen with L/Rs

I guess the earth points are listed in RAVE? Is it just a case of going to every earth point, loosening the nut and re-tightening it?

You can check sensors physically by jacking up a wheel to just off the ground and starting the car, place in gear, (no,, it wont run off:p) and check if the speedo is moving,
The D2 speedo takes an average speed from all 4 wheel sensors.

hmm abs earths are up on the radiator support brackets?

not too many amigo problems with earths,,
though LR put out a notice to check these.

Correct. SLABS earth points are behind the LH headlight on the inside of the support panel x 2.
Inside, behind the pax kick panel x1
It wont hurt to pull it off and give a quick clean and use a bit of WD or Lanolin when you refit.
