Mine was very twitchy also - but this was entirely due to it being on the original shocks after 160K km. It's a completely transformed car now with a very solid but still very comfortable ride since Ive fitted Koni Heavy Tracks and HD Kings front springs.Quote:

Hi all,
I have a general question about SLS. I can not find my RAVE CD at the moment so was wondering if anyone here can shed a bit of light for me?
I owned a P38 Range Rover for 5 years and loved it, I am now looking to buy a D2 with SLS within the next three months. On the P38 I got to know the EAS (Electronic Air Suspension) System really well and found despite a couple of computers being involved it was a fairly easy system to fault find and rectify.
Am I right in thinking the SLS is a simplified version of the Rangie's EAS? As such, on the D2 is the air compressor still mounted under the bonnet? Does it have an air tank/reservoir and solenoid-controlled air valve block to increase/decrease pressure in the airbags?
Reason I ask is there is a small and easy to install bypass kit available for the Rangie called MARS (I think it stood for Manual Air Recovery System). The MARS included 4x schrader valves, some plugs and lengths of line. Once MARS was installed the EAS would still function perfectly automatically, but if needed each airbag (one for each wheel) could be manually and individually inflated or deflated using an external compressor and normal tyre inflator. The valves were mounted to a plate which could be easily mounted in the engine bay near the compressor and valve block. The kit was fairly cheap. If the D2 SLS uses a similar valve block I am wondering if the same kit could be used to manually inflate/deflate the airbags in the rear of the D2?
Not sure if anyone can shed light on this but thought I'd ask.

SLS is a simplified version of the Rangie's EAS - Yes, rear only.
Is the air compressor still mounted under the bonnet - No, underneath the front passengers floor in a box off the chassis
Does it have an air tank/reservoir - No.
and solenoid-controlled air valve block to increase/decrease pressure in the airbags - Yes.
There is an equivalent MARS system for the D2 SLS.

just buy a single push-in connector and schrader valve and bobs your mothers brother.
The SLS compressor will die from two things,
ingestion of water and overwork.
I seem to remember there was a recall/notice thingy issued as water was dripping into the air inlet filter (which is behind the rear passenger brake/tail light) and causing early failure of the compressors due to water in their bearings.Quote:

Yeah, there are potential issues, but by the time the water is that high, it's leaking in through your door seals!! :eek: It's easy to get at the compressor to clean it. The air inlet & filter, as mentioned, is behind the passengers side tail-light. Keep it clean/replaced. If water gets THAT high your engine is already 2ft under water !! :eek:
No room in the engine bay for the SLS compressor! It's pretty safe where it's been factory mounted.
