    Oil around the intercooler.

    Gday All,

I was looking over the car today and I have oil around the fins on the Intercooler and a area on the radiator.
I checked the hose clamps on the hoses and they were loose so tightrened them up but am unsure if or why there would be engine oil in this area..

    Any thoughts or Ideas....

    Thanks and cheers Ean

Do you have an auto? if so check the transmission oil cooler below the intercooler. mine had a crack in the pipe going into the LHS of the trans cooler which luckily I found before a major failure. only found it by noticing oil in the area which as you point out shouldn't be there. service place said it wasn't uncommon. new trans cooler is $$$.

    Ean,
the mauls still have a gear box oil cooler so it would pay to check those connections as your gearbox has been out to do the clutch.

If the hose clamps were loose there si a chance of an oil mist escaping.
prior to fitting silicone hoses I had one blow off & there was quite an oily mess.
I have now fitted an oil catch tank into the system to try & keep the intercooler & hoses cleaner.

Ean_Austral, I agree with Shaker. I had oil on the intercooler and also on the drivers side guard. It was loose hose clamps on the intercooler hoses and the fan was blowing the oil onto the inside of the guard.

If you have tightened the hose clamps, next think about how to stop the oil mist from entering the hoses in the first place (oil separator) and then replace the intercooler hoses with silicone ones.

I recently fitted an EGR removal kit and was astonished at the oil/soot that was in the inlet manifold. All that oil in the system must be affecting performance.

    Cheers
