Discovery2 TD5 ABS SRS HDC TC errors

Two options for you.

1. Try the guys up at Redcliffe (MR Auotmotive). I have never used but have spoken to them on the phone and most reviews on this forum have have been good. In fact I haven't seen a bad review yet. There is also House of Rover (Albion). They are OK and I have used them but don't neccsarily recommend them. They will reset the faults for free which is good - did for me anyway.
2. Download all the info relating to Option B in the Good Oil section relating to 3 Amigos and take it do a half decent mechanic or auto electrican. (If you haven't already done so read the info in the Good Oil section relating to 3 amigos.

how did you unplug the ecu? where is it on a dis2?:o

ok, mine is a TD5, the ECU is in the bottle jack holder behind the battery. not sure where it is in V8. on the TD5 theres 2 screws holding the top of the ECU and then you lift it out and there are 2 large multi plug connectors.

DiscoHighlander, Penno; Fellas, there are more than a few fellow traavellers here willing and able to assist with diagnosing issues, particularly the 3 amigos! These can be set off by very minor issues. The Nanocom referred to is an aftermarket diagnostics computer that interrogates the Factory ECU (electronic control unit/ box of sparks) to obtain details of the fault. there are members here that are more than happy to give you access to theirs to save you the $0 + time- $88 charged by some woorkshops to check and reset the codes.

TD5s': when they're running they're great. When they hiccough, they're an illegitemate son of a foreign barmaid.:wasntme:;)

The process below worked well for my Td5. You may wish to get a professional mechanic to consider a similar approach on your vehicle.

I have a 99 Td5 at 250,000 k's. and the electronic system governing the ABS,HDC etc is very sensitive to brake squeal/vibration and has been an intermittent 'pain'. I believe that the Td5 vehicle is unsafe without the ABS!!! After the first episodes I fitted copper backing shims to the brake pads. No worries until about 80,000k's further on when the rotors had some ridging. ((I also used copper grease (sparingly) at the other contact points between the ferrous metals parts.)) On hearing that Land Rover had a professional solution to the squealing brake pads I bought them immediately. They were workable for a while but on the first dewey morning, reversing down the drive, the electronics went haywire again. These pads looked promising but the supplier gave me a full refund as there appeared to be a manufacturing problem. I went back to the home built copper fix behind new Girling pads and a new anti squeal grease for the ferrous contact points. All's well again but for next time, I have been advised that Girling 'heavy duty' pads are better at lessening the brake squeal/electronics issue than the pads I bought in haste and anger. I'll still fit the copper backing tho'. Note:- The vehicle had Land Rover's free 'desensitisation fix' on the electronics many years ago.

i must be honest though, thats not my site, nor any of my work, just a link i found when looking for some other D2 stuff some time ago. but yes, there is some good stuff on that site and very well documented fixes.

Thanks to Rosscoe 68 for the info on the ECU and oil seeping into it.
A very useful piece of info. I'm planning to drive a Td5 and van to Perth from 'back east' and will certainly check this issue/replace the faulty loom etc before I set out.
