Chip -V-ECU

I believe the original post was not about 'Coke versus Homebrand Cola' but saving money; and performance comparison between powerchips and remapped ECUs.
Powerchips are a cheaper option depending on where and how they are purchased and installed.
Again, based on price, the DTUK chip is a cheaper option(sometimes even cheaper with internet specials) than the ECU option and works very well.
I would also like to see a direct comparison of the performance increases of both formats, because both systems have adjustable parameters.
Perhaps someone in the forum is willing to lend their chip to an ECU remapper, do a comparison on one car with Dyno tests for proof and publish the results. Perhaps emissions from both could be compared also. There would then be a definitive answer to the 'Coke versus Homebrand cola' comparison.
As things are at present, it appears that both types of 'goods' are like motels that self rate themselves and give themselves 6 stars even though the rating system only goes up to 5.

There is a thread around showing a dyno read out of the BAS (Who I believe Tombie works closely with) td5 making over 200bhp.


Price I would like to see any one come close to offering the value for money of the Tombie upgrade.



If you are after a high hp diesel emissions should not be something you worry about…. Remember No Smoke, No Poke.

I'm sure if you put your hand in your pocket for the dyno there will be a few with the Tombie remap who will put up a vehicle. The general "experienced" consensus is that the plug &play units are limited and have a much higher cost over performance gained. These units do improve things but your hard pressed to see much beyond 10% and that's being generous and as previously stated, are patch items intercepting ECU signals.
But, your entitled to believe whatever it is you want to believe without ever having driven different vehicles fitted with different chips as myself and a number of others here have.

I guess it's like a horse with blinkers off and a horse with blinkers on, you either see the full race field and what your up against, or you just see a narrow field ahead with no idea what's around you.

Everyone has praise for Tombie's work, which I am sure is very much up to scratch with all the compliments about his work. But what is the price comparison? Which is somewhere near the subject of what this thread started about. Not horses racing with blinkers....on or off, or drinking Coke or homebrand cola, Ford versus Holden, Mac versus Windows, Pink marshmellows versus Tim Tams etc etc etc

Remaps will not void insurance policy if it is stated on the policy. One should always declare all.

Insurance should not be the reason to not get one.

Hi Jason
Toombie is a great supporter of AULRO,he recently donated 2 upgrades for us to auction to raise money towards the running of AULRO.
Many here have his mapping and are very happy with the results.
