Thumbs down fuel filter change, air in the line, won't start

    hi there,
this is what happened to me at the weekend, Friday afternoon..
read the other threads and this is new.
changed the fuel filter as per normal.
    started engine as per normal.
engine started and ran ,then very foolishly stopped engine.
note: if engine starts , keep it running and dont turn of the ignition...got it?
    Then this happened: stopped engine,
tried to restart engine, wont start now matter what.
NRMA called, they send a man and he doesn't know how to restart land rover engine if air in the line.(thinks what are the NRMA thinking?
He goes away to consult (technical help on Monday).
My vehicle is now left in the wilderness for 2 days , no help and I am very annoyed.
Sunday morning: read the owners manual: there is a procedure, yes a procedure for starting vehicles that have run out of fuel........
applied the procedure and did it twice, battery is now totally flat and needs a r recharge. I then apply a recharge over night...

I return the following morning Monday and turn the key. The engine bursts into life after flooring the accelerator, and I' m on my way again.
The moral of the storey is read your owners land rover handbook, it contains information that you never imagined possible and Solihull has you in its thoughts constantly........

I hope that this may be of some help to other discovery2 owners, I have changed the fuel filter many times during my stint as the carer of my beloved land-rover and this never happened tome before , so beware, these are testing times and we need guidance to the promised land............

Hapened to me the first time too

Now I turn the ignition on and walk away till the pump changes tone.

RTFM---Always a good fall back procedure at my house

Well done on getting an answer before the Question, confused me at first.
    Cheers, Kyle

Same thing happened to me first time I changed it. The secret is to 3/4 fill the filter with diesel before screwing into place, less air to be displaced. Then its just ignition on till pump times out repeating process till no whirling/swishing noises out of pump.
    Regards
    Robbo.
