    Question Disco Roof Lining Sagging

Does anyone have any quick easy fixing ideas for the roof linning sagging problem. The ol staple gun method would work but I rather try something else like injecting glue ?? If someone has delt with this I would really appreciate some help.

I have used glue and it worked. In the end I had mine professionally fixed and it coast $100 over here.
I read in one of the Land Rover magazines that it is caused by humidity.Mine started to sag after I came home from Cape York.
    Cheers

If you have a D1 then yes, the glue was very susceptible to heat/humidity and the lining would sag.

My old D1 finally drooped after about 2 years. I was told that it was pointless trying to re-glue it or tack it to the roof proper so I took it to an auto apholsterer (Difficult to spell ) - in Ipswich ironically Disco44 and he made a new lining and it lasted for 5 more years before I sold it.

The re-lining was no more then $200 and was money well spent as it looked better, was better material and the guy 'tucked' the new lining right up to the roof.

LR apparently updated the glue on later models. My D2 has no issues at all.

    Cheers!

There are two problems with most of the linings.

Firstly most of the fabric has a layer of foam which breaks down in our Australian heat so the backing separates from the outer membrane.

Secondly but less of a problem, is the outer moulded form material which doubles for sound deading, can lose its shape, usually happens many years later than the foam disintegration sagging problem.

I tried some home-made fixes with glue but the dust left from the disintegrated foam left lumps and when I presented it to a "Motor Trimmer" (the actual title for the trade that upholsters cars) said that removing the home applied glue is the most difficult task and damages the form underneath. So don't glue it yourself, do as Cattmat suggests and have it done by a trimmer, it's well worth it in the long run!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Head Lining

I had mine replaced about 2 months ago for $350. It's 325 if you don't have the factory DVD player.

I have a D2 2003 model and it's only a matter of time if yours still hanging in there. Colder climate would help with longevity though.

    Regards
    Andrew

Mine was same price in Darwin on 1 July - great job with the newer material (no foam backing) and used the heat resistant glue too.

    Good price

At least everyone can feel good about the price because $350 is about the going price as this has been confirmed by about 4 or so previously on the forum.

Mine came with a 2 year warranty and he still said it will fall down again but I don't mind if it's in 7 years time and around $350 to fix.

The lining in BUB002 had just started to go in the corners,, so thats 11 years.

Hopefully, with all the fruit on the roof, this one wont have that problem,,,

My D2 roof lining started sagging about a year ago..and mine has always been kept under the house at home or under the building at work...very little sitting in the sun. The thing keeping mine up is the sunroof and the Milford barrier. In my D1 its the barrier and pins and a hot glue gun.
