HELP!! Newbie Disco 2 Owner - Lost key! - What's the best thing to do??

Ok - Today a little bit of progress - I called Land Rover.

I got the "key cut code" from the vin (which by the way starts with an SA not a XA or a YA that lots of people talk about - I asked the guy at landrover and he said all D2's start with SA" Who knows but he knew straight away it was the Green one so I have faith in this code. He said because mine is an 07/00 build it would most likely be the 433mhz so unforunately that auction is no good to me :/

He said get someone to cut a key using the code (4 digits) (any reputible auto key cutting dude) - you will be able to get into the car, however the alarm will sound.

Apparently there is some sort of emergency procedure where you turn the key in the door left, then right then left then right or something like that for a predetermined amount of times each way and for different amounts of time for each turn for the alarm not to sound.

He said this was in the hand book - which is in the car - which I am not going to have time to get to.

My Disco 2 is a 07/00 if anyone has the handbook would they mind looking up exactly what this emergecy key procedure is?

Failing that I could get it open, pop the bonnet and disconnect the battery but I am invisioning a whole range of problems from doing that... I'd prefer to have the correct procedure.

Hi disarming the alarm with the key is an option and it works, but I'm sure the codes differ from vehicle to vehicle, you will need the code for yours which shoud be with the origional paper work, Sooo you still need to get inside!!

LR can tell you what your EKA code is from the last six numbers of your VIN.;)
However, you need to prove that you are the owner.

The XA or YA is part of the VIN. It's the 2 letters before the last 6 digits.
X = 1999 model year
Y = 2000 model year

I will get a locksmith out to cut me the blank then probably juts pop the bonnet and disconnect the battery ultra fast. I don't think I will have time to grab the paperwork for my key unlock code.

What does bother me a little is the fact that my VIN appears not to have either an XA or YA in front of the last 6 digits (that were supplied to landrover so I could get the code for the key) it is a 1A. Now this is going off the paper work I have for the car - not the actual car itself so it could be wrong. As soon as I get the thing open I will check.

Lets hope that other remote works!

Locks & Alarm
ENGINE IMMOBILISATION
Engine immobilisation is an important aspect
of the security system, and includes a feature
known as ’passive immobilisation’. This is
designed to safeguard the vehicle from theft,
should the driver forget to lock the doors and
prevents the engine from being started unless
the GENUINE handset key is inserted into the
starter switch. Engine immobilisation is
automatic whenever any of the following
conditions occur.
• The vehicle is locked using handset or key.
• Thirty seconds after the starter switch has
been turned off AND the driver’s door
opened.
• Five minutes after the starter switch is
turned off, or the alarm system is
disarmed.
The engine will be re-mobilised
automatically whenever the genuine
handset key is inserted into the starter
switch and turned to position ’II’.
EMERGENCY KEY ACCESS
If the handset is damaged, or fails to operate,
the engine can be re-mobilised by using the
key to enter a unique four number emergency
key access code. The code is recorded on the
Security Information card and is entered as
follows:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
When entering a code:
• ENSURE each key movement is
carried out with care and precision
and turned to the full extent of its
travel.
• After turning the key to either the
lock or unlock positions, make sure
it is FULLY returned to the centre
(vertical) position.
• An interval of 10 seconds or more
between key turns, or the key being
held in a locked or unlocked position
for 5 seconds or more will cancel an
entry attempt, in which case you
must start again with operation 1.
1. Ensure that all doors are
closed, then using the key
turn the driver’s door lock to
the UNLOCK position
(towards the front of the car)
and hold in this position for at least 5 seconds
until the alarm sounder sounds once). Then
return the key to the centre position. It is now
possible to use the key to enter the separate
numerical values of the four numbers that
make up the emergency key access code.
2. Enter the FIRST number of
the code. If the first number
is 4, turn the key (towards the
front of the car) to the
UNLOCK position 4 times.
Ensure the key is FULLY returned to the centre
position after each turn.

3. Enter the SECOND number
of the code. If the second
number is 3, turn the key
(towards the rear) to the
LOCK position 3 times.
Remember; the key must be FULLY returned
to the centre position after each turn.
4. Enter the THIRD number of
the code. If the third number
is 12, turn the key to the
UNLOCK position twelve
times, ensuring that the key is
FULLY returned to the centre position after
each turn.
5. Enter the FOURTH number
of the code. If the fourth
number is 1, turn the key to
the LOCK position once.
Ensure the key is FULLY
returned to the centre position.
6. Finally, turn the key to the
unlock position once more. If
the code has been entered
correctly, a double ’bleep’ will
sound (a single ’bleep’
indicates that the code has been entered
incorrectly).
NOTE: If the Mislock audible warning has
been deselected (by a Land Rover dealer), the
alarm sounder will not sound when an EKA
code has been entered. Instead, the alarm
indicator light on the instrument panel will
flash once (for one second) to indicate a
successful code entry.
7. Now open the door, insert the key into the
starter and turn the switch to position ’II’
IMMEDIATELY! If the starter switch is not
turned to position ’II’ within 30 seconds of the
indicator light extinguishing, the engine will
automatically immobilise again.
If an incorrect code has been entered:
If an incorrect code has been entered, the
alarm sounder will sound once and the
anti-theft alarm indicator light will continue to
flash. In this case, return to operation ’1’ and
re-enter the code.
After three failed entry attempts, the security
system invokes a delay period of ten minutes
during which the system will not accept any
further attempts to enter a code.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Memorise the emergency key access
code or keep the Security card on your
person in case of emergencies. NEVER
leave the card in the vehicle.

XA = 1999
YA = 2000

Then they changed:
1A = 2001
2A = 2002

Biggin: What a legend. Thanks mate - much appreciated. I have the EKA as well as the code to cut the key. I am going to get all this done in about 3 hours. It will be nice to see the inside of my land rover again, maybe even drive it. :)

Scouse: That is interesting information. Maybe 1A was for the .05MY models. I presume this means manufactured from June onwards in 2000. Mine was manufactured in July. I think this as it is definitely stamped a year 2000 model and not a 2001.

Zute / Pedro - That is my backup plan if the initial key thing fails.
