Thread: Boost control/max???

Ive been giving it some thought of plumbing the wastegate controller to the inlet manifold. My thought being, it would give smoother control to the waste gate. Ive noticed since fitting a boost gauge, that the wastegate opens and closes rapidly at full boost and preformance drops off.

That's not the wastegate, it's the ECU cutting fuel if your getting what feels like a cut out or surging. It's overboost.
You simply need to back off the wastegate adjustment a quarter of a turn at a time until it stops under hard acceleration.
Adjust the rod so it's longer to open wastegate sooner.

    Cheers

After adjusting wastegate revs drop off very slowly??

I hope Andrew "lovemyrangie" is still watching this thread, seems to understand what is going on in TD5 turbo world.

My question is this, I have shortened the rod to increase boost which it certainly did, previously disco wouldn't rev beyond 3500 now screams way past 4500 but it now feels like it doesn't want to slow down when I take my foot of the gas! Feels like an age before revs start dropping

Any one have any ideas about that or is it just that I am not used to how it should be?

If it wouldn't pull past 3500, then you have another problem that needs sorting first, Sounds like you have masked it over a little by playing with the wastegate.
