Thread: auxillary battery tray

I called ARB yesterday but the sales person said they dont have one for D2 with rear Air Con on the list. They only have one from Piranha.

Anyone has the model/part number for the ARB tray for D2 with rear aircon?

No, sorry ... but I can vouch for the fact that it exists (i guess) as I have one fitted to my D2a with rear A/C .... unless, the one tray fits both applications ! ??

When I purchased the ARB tray for my D2 with rear A/C, the ARB salesman was adamant that "the" tray would not fit due to their being a pipe in the way.

The tray did fit however required the obstructive pipe to be slightly bent out of the way, it is aluminium and reallllly soft so was easily pushed down the 2cm or so to clear the edge of the tray.

So, in my experience there is no ARB battery tray for rear A/C models; it is worth mentioning that ARB were happy to order the tray in for me and to accept its return for refund provided I did not damage the packaging etc.

I remember taking a few photo's at the time, I will try to find and post up.

The 2009 ARB Retail price list only describes a Part Number 4332030 as being for a disco - "Series 2 Non Rear Air Con Models" . (as part of an ARB dual battery system)
The instruction sheet for the one I fitted a couple of years ago describes it as a Fitting Kit No 6717402 Part No 42/4332030

As mentioned above, appears it can be fittted to a rear aircon model if you gently modify a pipe or two.

For my two bobs worth I also went through this exercise a month ago and gave up due the fact the the tray can only fit a small battery say 50-60amp. Since I wanted this to run a fridge and some lights it's no good as it would only last a day. I ended up incorporating a space for a 130amp battery in a drawer system I made in the back of the car instead. Now I have about 3 days worth of power without having to start the car.

I went through this a couple of years ago. Rocket Rod is right, to use the ARB tray as intended there are only couple of brands of battery which mount correctly in the ARB tray and they are limited to 60aH. However, I fitted an 80aH by drilling a couple of holes in the base of the tray and using a standard type of mount (threaded bar with hooks and flat bar across battery). Again there are only limited batteries available that fit in with the height restriction. Problem was the ARB hold down bracket incorporates a heat shield. In my case, due to its absense, I cooked the battery. I've now gone back to the standard mount, 60aH battery and take a solar panel if I am going to be stationary for longer than a day (summer) or two (winter).

I use a 60AH in the ARB tray in conjunction with a 120AH SLA battery mounted in the camper - connected in parallel through a 50A anderson plug. (with an anderson plug to anderson plug extension lead if necessary when uncoupled)

The 60 AH is sufficient to run the Engel in the back of the D2 for a day or so - just make sure there is a low voltage cut-out in the circuit.
Thinking about adding a portable solar panel to the set-up, again connected via the anderson plug when required.

wouldnt the battery get very hot and fail prematurely, so close to the turbo?
