Powerbleeding is a better option than just exercising the shuttles,
Though I'm not sure if activating the ABS module will circulate fluid through the valves,, I'm sure powerbleeding does, and anyway, arent you supposed to replace brake fluid every so often??

I've done 8 separate powerbleeds and every time the first fluid at each wheel comes out black,,

Unhappy abs technique and more questions

    Ho there Pedro
thank you for your ongoing assistance.
I did you basic test for abs malfunction ( jack up one wheel at a time and see if speedo registers in drive) and found that the rear 2 wheels did not register?
so I guessed that the sensors were not working in the rear wheels. So....
took into local garage and they removed wheels, callipers and rotors.
Removed sensors one at a time and cleaned. Virtually no magnetic attracted dust or anything else on sensors. They replaced them and reinstalled the rest of the gear. $100 bill later and they returned the car saying that the 3 amegios come on all the time.
I asked them if they had cleared the faults with a Nanocom and got a confused look. OMG what do I do now? I am driving around with a non ABS compliant motor vehicle and no ABS!
Does anyone near me have a nanocom to clear my codes?

where would I buy a Nanocom to suit my landie and how much?
Is Tombie a reliable source of information and equipment in Australia?
I have heard all sorts of reports on Aulro.............mostly good

The fault as described above is caused by a "dry joint" in the solder connection between the pins and the printed circuit board. Wave soldering processes are prone to this type of failure, and is exacerbated by heat cycles and vibration, all of which occur in the ABS module.

Operation of the modulator pump via ABS, TC or HDC just vibrates the module, hopefully closing the hairline fracture till another day. In my case, operating the pump caused the 3 amigos to appear quick smart.

You can fix this problem by:

    • Buying another ABS module... (or another Landy, they cost nearly the same)
    • Pulling out the printed circuitboard, exposing the solder, resolder etc (too much work for me)
    • Or, simply reroute the two shuttle switch wires to their respective wires in the wiring loom, hence bypassing the dry joint.
You don't need new shuttle valves and probably don't need new shuttle valve switches either. A quick check with a multimeter will tell you if the switches are ok. I should know, I now have a spare pair of switches that I bought before pulling the module apart

So, if you are having intermittent friends that come and go then Pedro's "option B" is your first port of call.

    Ron
