Hi all. I have yet to strip down my D2 to replace what I think must be a valley gasket that is causing a vacuum whislte on deceleration, but before I do (and i have had no luck with spray) is there anyone (any workshops or otherwise) with a smoker that can be used to detect vac leaks....I think it must be valley cause its right behind the alternator/air con and I have manually checked all the hoses etc and have torqued down the intake bolts.
Cheers
start it up and spray in with areostart. when the revs change you'll find the leak if its manifold vacume.
if your concerned that its the sucking into the sump then I suggest using a spritzer bottle of water but the action of the fan is going to pooch you.
A better solution to find a crank case vac leak is to pull the crank case breather line and attach a vac brake bleeder to it then listen for the leaks In a pinch a matress pump that doubles as a deflator will work but they make a hell of a noise so you will need to use a long lenght of hose (garden hose works fine if its in good order) to remote the vac pump.
