CDL Install in 2002 D2- how much?

I took my D2 up to the powerline track (perth) yesterday to try out the CDL. We drove to the far end near the lakes and came back all the way just missing the last hill before Mundaring. I am very impressed down hill assist works great up hill as well. I had all the lights on the dash working Diff lock, down hill assist, TC and ABS all functons combine to give excellent traction far better than wthout the CDL. I took a lot of the difficult sections and while using dha to climb the engine only stalled once. I changed back to 1st gear and we climbed over the obstacle. I am running 18 inch wheels and Khumo road tyres, these are not the best for off road use but we got through witout any problems. Interesting to feel the TC working.
When home it was nice to climb under the vehicle and not see any oil leaking.
I will now source some 16 inch wheels and off road tyres before we hit the dunes down south a chip remap and snorkel is also on the cards.

Well I got my D2 back from AMV in Ringwood today and it now has its manhood reinstated.
Costs:
Ashcroft CDL kit $700 for the transfer case (these are basically second hand bits sandblasted and checked)
Ashcroft CDL lever $520 (these were both sourced locally)
$460 to fit both the transfer case bits and the lever, change some seals/o-rings and fill with oil.(Transfer case was removed for this, although they said they could do it on the car, seal replacement made removal necessary)

Interestingly, mine hasn't got the wiring in the harness or even the light in the cluster, so when the CDL is engaged, the car doesn't even know it's on, so no problems with amigos if engaged when turned off.
I actually want the ABS and TC to work in conjunction with the CDL anyway.
Can't tell you exactly the build month , but it is definitely an 02 model.
One thing I noticed on the way home is that there is more noise coming through the lever area, probably because the bottom is open, I will try and ges some more foam type insulation in under the boot to quieten it down a little?)

Will be "testing" it out at Avon River on the weekend, can't wait !!!

Sounds like a reasonable deal.
However, I would be a bit concerned not having cdl indication on the dash. Driving on a hard surface for extended periods with cdl in, is not good for the driveline.
I find it hard to believe the switch wiring isn't there somewhere. Your mechanic may have placed it in the "too hard basket".
I had similar work done on my 2002 model and had the switch connected.
Check to make sure your hill decent control works also, this is activated from a high/low switch on the transfer case.

I went down a different path and bought a complete late model T/fer case with CDL for $1400 a bit cheaper and my old T/fer was on way out anyway. My CDL light is in the dash and works also 2002 model. As mine is a manual I had to replace clutch, dual mass flywheel etc which bumped my cost up. My late model case had different wiring but was easily converted. All the traction control abs down hill works great.

Just a suggestion, while the transfer case is out and apart, have it checked. Also have a bush fitted to the intermediate shaft - where it pokes out the housing. A quality LR tech will know this fix.

I got myself a 2004 tc to put in my 2001 and i asked a landie mechanic to do this fix and i was told it was not needed. Can some one tell me what this fix would do and should i get it done regardless? Cheers.

your 2001 model probably does not have a CDL (central diff lock) you can tell if it does as the low range selector will also have cdl emgagment option. fitting a CDL will greatly improve off road capability especialy in soft sand. Without the CDL you are relieing on traction control which doesnt work well in sand. As well as the CDl you will need the lever cable and plate that fits under the centre console.

Take it to another landy mechanic, usual cost around $400 to $500 to fit a new T/fer case. Make sure it checked out and replace thrust washers and do the rear bush if required. My new t/fer had only done very low k's and did not require any work.

I did a D1 output housing and output housing interals and used a pull cable that travels 2cm and is located on the trans tunnel. I used a switch on the dash to tell the SLABS computer if it's on low range and then hdc and added traction control works. Cheers.

My output housing came out of an old range rover but I can't remember which one.
The only problem was no facility for the high/low range switch (similar to Ozscott's situation I think).
I ended up installing a proximity switch on the high/low selector and wired it directly to the control unit.
Anyway, I'm sure someone here can tell me which RR the housing would have came from.
