CDL Install in 2002 D2- how much?

    Hi all.

I have just acquired all the bits necessary to get the CDL working in my 02 model (that didn't have a CDL fitted to the transfer case).

What I wan't to know is how much it's going to cost to get it fitted in Melbourne, has any one gone through this exercise before?

I am quite handy and willing to do the lever install myself, but the transfer case stuff is a bit daunting, and as this is my daily driver, I don't want to keep it off the road for too long?

So, has any one had this done, and how much did it cost/can you recommend someone to do it?

Any competent LR place can do it.

I had front transfer case housing installed along with the lever on my 2002 - same as yours. Both the replacement parts came from a D2a. Mechanics did it in a day and took out the t/case to do it all. I supplied the parts, labour was $600 4 years ago.

I just had mine fitted up by Peninsula Rangie Automotive, in Frankston prior to picking up the car when I bought it. Like you I had to have the whole lot done, took them a day, but they had to source all parts themselves. Not sure what the parts or labour were worth individually, but I think my bill for it was around the $1300 mark all up. I'm still waiting to recieve the paperwork for it.

Just a suggestion, while the transfer case is out and apart, have it checked. Also have a bush fitted to the intermediate shaft - where it pokes out the housing. A quality LR tech will know this fix.

Hey Robert, check out Fred Smith Automotive, he's just around the corner for you (Bayswater)and I reckon he's the best LR bloke in town. He isn't the cheapest, but having used someone else for a long time who I thought was doing the required work, I will not be going anywhere else in future. Fred fitted front and rear lockers for me, redid the manifold and studs and god knows what else..... oh,he reco'd the transfer that I thought had already been done, showed me why too. He'll also source the bits you need for the lever, he has sources that are very secret business lol
    His number is 97204999
Nice bloke too, will tell you everything you need to know about LR's (x army mechanic)

If someone sources all the bits for you - output housing from a Disco 1 and internals, a basic push pull cable, and connects up the high low wires back to a switch on the dash using say a second HDC button for that purpose about $1500.00.

    Cheers

Mine is being done as we speak

I sourced a t/fer case from triumph rover parts in Adelaide $1600. with all the gear to do the change including the metal plate. Quote to exchange was around $400. Mine is a manual so once I got nto it I might as well pull out the gear box and replace the clutch, and dual mass flywheel and rear main seal all up about another $1500. Trevor my mechanic at british 4x4 called today to tell me it was a good move as the pressure plate was almost ready to give up. The dual mass flywheel was also dodgy. I figure that now I have a CDL I will be down the beach a bit more so it was worth doing the lot. So it has been expensive but as I have just had a free paint job courtesy of the hail storm I might as well keep the old girl for another 2 years. I am looking forward to testing it out in a couple of weeks down south at Calicup hill and the mouth of the Warren River.
