    Truetrac for the front

Well I've bitten the bullet and ordered a truetrac from the US.
I am confident I can do the install myself, the trouble is I've never even looked inside a diff before, so the confidence could be misplaced.
I understand you need a needle gauge to check free play in the diff before it is removed. Is this important, or is there a way around it as I don't have a needle gauge.
Also what other parts will I need to complete the job, seals, loctite, gaskets etc.
I have searched a fair bit but couldn't find much in the way of tutorials.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

If I can pull this off, I will look at installing a Detroit locker in the rear next.

i know they are cheaper but why didnt you end up going a air locker in the front at least? I would have truetac'd the rear n aired up the front in a permanent 4wd car?

You need a dial test indicator, new carrier bearings, loctite, and that is about all. If you leave the pinion alone it is quite simple to set up.

A Truetrac is much kinder on CV joints than a locker, and a rear locker makes more difference than a front.

I was planning on Air locker rear and TT front on my 110 tourer until a front ARB fell into my lap.

Yeh thanks, that's what I meant by needle gauge.
So I don't need a gasket for the diff then? or shims?

Cheap is good when you need to clear it with SWMBO.

My knowledge on this subject is gained through what I've read in the past few days.

U.S. Truetracs and Detroit Lockers are cheap and reliable (so I've been told), and the consensus seems to be truetrac in the front, locker in the back.
It's a starting point for now.

I can always start moving things around later if I'm not happy with the set up.

At around $1100 for the lot. it seems worth the risk.

No shims needed. Gasket or silastic - up to you. Pretty sure Land Rover use sliastic these days?
