New Windscreen noisy

Hi All,

Last week I replaced the w/screen on my newly purchased D2. The old windscreen was an OEM pilkington made glass and the new one was a non genuine replacement. Because I have only owned the car for less than a week before replacement, I cant for the life of me remember if the wind noise was as bad as it is now? Its bloody terrible now.

It seems as though its leaking air between the w/screen and the dash (see pic) I took of the plastic cowling under the wipers to see if there was a gap in the sealant, but it all looked good. Is there a vent there that i dont know about?

Its like the noise you get when you open your window a centremeter or two

Any help would be greatly appreciated as its my daily drive, I dont know how much longer I can put up with it. Im still tey to work out if its an install prob or just a normal disco trait?

Cheers

yeh thanks but it doesnt make me feel any better perhaps I can invest in a pair of ear muffs....ok, its not quite that bad....maybe just turn the stereo up a little.

I should mention that even with the a/c off there is a fair breeze flowing from just right of the centre of the dash - about where the arrow is on the photo which seems to correspond with the frequency of the wind noise (measured by the oh so technical frequency-o-meter - my hand)

Happy to cop my share of noob ****

Happy to use silicon also...if I can find the hole / leak. Like I said Ive checked all the way along the bottom of the screen....solid black windscreen silicon the entire length.

I did see an air intake under the wiper cowling and filter of some description, just in front of the passenger seat, what is that for? could that be the source?

Check that the black side trims are tight against the screen. It is possible that air is getting between these and the screen.

I recall someone here suggesting, fill a spray bottle with soapy water and spray around the outside perimeter of the screen, then get a compressed air gun, and run it around the inside perimeter of the screen.
Any leaks will show up as bubbles on the outside.

You have a bonded screen so highly doubtfull there is any problem with seal between glass and body. The culprit will be the rubber surrounds not seating properly as Bundalene points out, particularly if they were re-used (which is hard to do at the best of times but will save around $350 on new surrounds)

Thanks all for the info. I definately have a few good things to check. I forgot to mention that whilst removing the wiper shroud, i may have inadvertantly chipped the bottom of the windscreen with a screwdriver.....the result but not immediately noticed was a crack from top to bottom - lucky its in front of the passanger. New windscreen.....again??

cheers
