My 2002 drivers seat rocks a bit, due to slop in the runners. After much inspecting in the car. The fore and aft lock appears to be OK. It is almost as if one of the ball bearings has dropped out. It is too hard to see for sure. It is not the backrest, it is definately somewhere in the runners and more prononced in the right hand one. Any suggestions? I have lived with it for 12 months, but I really ought to fix it.
By the way, thanks to Tempest V8 for his 2008 post on replacing heater control lights.

2 and a half years later, I have diagnosed and fixed my loose driver’s seat. The problem is the metal used for the runner channels is a bit thin and splays. This allows the ball bearings to move and leads to play between the whole seat and the floor. The driver’s seat is worse due to more use. The left hand runner is not so bad because it has reinforcing from the slider catch. I tried squeezing the outer channel but that did not work. My solution was to slide the seat all the way back and use a suitable drift to splay the front of the inner channel just enough to take up the play. Slide the seat all the way forward and splay the rear of the inner channel. The photo is posed, the seat should be pushed further forward. I removed the seat for other reasons but I think it could be done without removing the seat.
