    D2 V8 fuel consumption

    Have been reading about Disco whites fuel consumption problems on his td5 in some of the posts and responses some are only getting in the mid to low 500to600 k Range. As I havent had my D2 for very long I have only just been taking notice of fuel consumption from a full and I mean full fuel tank to when the light comes on and I am getting over 600k to the tank at that point.
    It appears very very good and this is with some long runs and some short around the city runs. My Rangie 89 3.9 is getting nowhwere near this and thats why I have it on Gas. Is the D2 V8 thor motor that much better?
    What is everyone else getting from the V8.?
    Mine has just done 180k
    do I Have a freaky one?
    if so I am happy or are they all like this?

    I just got 300ks on a half a tank in my V8 D2. Mostly stop start traffic, will wait to see how the second half of the tank goes.

    So thats about 15l/100km.

    Hi Brad,

    I can't say that I have got to 600k before filling up, more like 500k and I am looking for the pump.

    In the city I constantly get 17L/100km. The worst that I have recorded was 19L/100km, but that was after a day's play at Harvey and included the return trip back home.

    400-450Km per tank city driving. 500km when I did a freeway trip. Don't really care about the cost, I would just prefer to go further between refills. Need to check MAF and O2 sensors but haven't got around to it yet.

    Mine is a MY2000 with 250K.

    yes, its that much better.
    its all in the inlet manifold.


    having said that--
    dont get too used to the 600 thing,,,
    I got that
    once, in the green one, coming back from Melbourne empty on the freeway--
    but with this one on gas,,
    who cares??

    Over the last 120,000 km mine (an automatic) has averaged around 13 to 14 on the highway, around 17 to 20 in town, and 24 to 28 towing our van (2.7 tonnes) on the highway. The climate control is on constantly, summer and winter. I once got 12 LHK on a long trip by sitting on no more than 100kph, but that was unusual. I changed the engine for a 4.6 HC 30,000 km ago, and it made no noticable difference to fuel consumption.

    Same with our D2. We have had it for about 6 months. We get around 15 l/100km around town and a bit better on a trip. Towing is closer to 20. Mind you I have noticed a bit of a difference if I back off on the speed a bit when towing - but - we didn't get the V8 so we could go slower.

    i have a d1 3.9 v8, out of my last three tanks i have averaged 14l/100klms.... this includes offroading,city and highway driving combined

    not bad considering the 275,000 klms on the clock of the old girl.
    i think the recent work ive had done would have helped:

    new plugs, new leads, new vac advance, new air filter, some injector cleaner,

    so far im real happy with those figures

    Hey guys,
    we've had our 01 V8 auto for 5 or so months and have had a few runs for comparison.

    We've noticed the fuel gauge at 'half' has really used about 60 to 65 litres.
    If we do a lot of stop/start driving with a heavy foot it will do 18 to 20l/100k, and a nice trip up to Bright from Melbourne towing a dirtbike on trailer, with a few hours of low range 4x4ing will average mid 15's.

    I try keeping to 100kph in the freeway (40psi in tyres) as it looks like a brick on wheels! I hate going UNDER the nana speed limit. Will try at 110kph next time and see what happens.

    Feed it the GOOD JUICE - 98 ron - it more than pays for itself. It seems to have a much stronger jump off the line, so you can used less gas!

    It can get reasonable economy around town but I try to get it to upchange at 2000rpm. Still enough to keep ahead of most traffic.

    We were going to buy a AWD Territory and I can safely say it wouldnt do much better than that!

    Well, after only having mine (2002D2) for a couple of months now, the first thing we noticed was the fuel eccon difference over the D1. ,, Both are auto's, and neither are on gas.
    The D1 gets about 350 in town, 400-430 open road a tank, average driving, (but I do have a lead foot). And I've found the 95R gives me about the best value "all round",
    The D2 gets around 480 in town, and about 530 open road. And my foots no lighter, in fact with more power, I think its actually heavier,, At the moment, I'm useing 95R, but when things settle down, and I can get some miles under my belt, we'll do some comparisons with 98R etc.
