    The Final Chapter

The Disco is now fixed and starting every time.

The offending item was a dodgy crank angle sensor.

Yeah. I know. I should have changed it as soon as I had starting problems......But I am not very good at hindsight.

One piece of info to store in the memory bank is...........
If a Nanocom or Rovacom is available, the tooth count can be seen as the engine is cranking.
This will determine if the crank angle sensor is good or a dud.

Or, if one experiences engine cranking and intermittent starting, just spend $160 for a new (genuine) crank angle sensor.
Don't even think about the cheap copies on ebay.

For the technically minded. A good crank angle sensor for the D2 V8 has a steady coil resistance of about 1000 ohms.
My intermittently dud one has a resistance varying from 30,000 to 100,000 ohms. Depending on temperature.

    Hindsight kicking in now.
Maybe I should keep a spare sensor for when I go bush?

Same thing happened to my S2 Disco. Came out from shopping and cranked but no fire. Took it to Knights and they threw in a new sensor and Roberts your mothers brother....No more problems.
This has also been the only problem mine has had since owning it...can't complain.
