    Next Gen Defender

Whilst I quite like the D2 it is getting near impossible to upgrade to a robust modifiable 4WD.
There's been a lot of hype about the next Defender due in 2015 so fingers crossed this may be my next upgrade if it's done right and not turned into a soft offroader.
No I don't have any interest in the next Disco particularly if it continues to be more of an SUV than 4WD.... But I guess this is what appeals to the general populace.

    That's my Rant!

Are you kidding? There's more and more aftermarket mods for D2's coming out every week. I would have thought they are becoming easier to modify into a robust 4x4 than ever before.
As to D3's being soft SUV's well... Maybe you should some research as to what they are capable of.

Like you tough, I'm keen to see what the next incarnation of the Defender looks like.

Nothing wrong with the D2, after making a number of mods for reliability.....just what vehicle to upgrade to (if I had to) ?

2015 is a long time though!

I beleive the D3 / 4 are BETTER four whel drives in MOST respects than my Defender. And there are a lot of reasons for that.

and let's face it there are a LOT of things that could be improved on the Defender - panl fit, dust sealing, NVH, ergonomics to some extent, etc etc etc

LR would be looking to do so, too, to broaden the appeal in the marketplace. Given they are most likely not going to be pursuing military contarcts I wouldn't be surpised to see some sort of name change either.

HOWEVER (and it's a big one) as LR becomes a more and more "premium brand" the most important thing, as far as I am concerned, is that the Defender remains, relaively speaking, affordable.

I would have no concerns if a new Defender was based on D3 / 4 underpinnings etc and especially the BRILLIANT electronics / computer technology that makes them so good off road. IF you;re going to have elecrics you may as well have good ones.

I fear however that going this route would see a marked increase in price that would make a new LR (aside from perhaps a not VERY off road capable FreeLander) out of the question for me and that would be a bloody shame.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
