I know dude.... ummmm but it's more than that.

    Dude

It's still hit and miss with regards to details regarding your own car (and also some of the model details).

When you type your VIN in it tells you what parts you need or suite your car however on the very first screen where you type the VIN there are some tabs on the lower part of this screen and it goes into the specifc of your own car, no one elses, your car . What frequency etc your fob is, what your interior is made of eg fabric or leather, colour and all sorts of car specifc details. It's like a birth register.

Have a look for yourself and if yours is all correct well congratulations dude but I know mine's not.

    Regards
    Andrew

    Test Bunny

    Sharkee

My advice is to use Sully as a test bunny (nothing personnel here Sully). If it's as easy as purchasing a key from ebay and having a friend progam with a Nancom, sweet you just saved a packet of cash. (You'll still save a packet of cash with the method Sully has regardless if you have to send it back 6 times) You might find it's a tad more difficult, maybe not.

I know from experience as I'm currently doing the marathon finding the right key for my car (I'm in no rush) and it's not as simple as you think. Some contradictory information in Micorcat, on this forum and various other websites.

Sully I'm sure will give us an update of how it all comes together. Sully sounds like you have the right key though.

    D2s only have 315 and 433 Mhz.

    Regards

Not taken personally at all Andrew. You're right, it's certainly not as easy as buying any old blank key and FOB from eBay and assuming that it will match your car. As previously mentioned, you will need to varify your frequency with Land Rover (through your chassis number) and then varify with any seller that the frequency matches their offering. After that, we can only hope that the seller is actually sending exactly what they say they are going to send.
You might find that the sellers on eBay who have many sales under their belt are more reliable, such as the one I am using, Vista Remotes.

Andrew, what troubles have you had in finding a key for your car? Who have you been dealing with?
It might be worthy to share some of them so as to warn others? (not sure if there is another thread about this)

In any case, I'm pretty certain that I've found the right key. It's a fair dinkum Land Rover FOB and blank key at 315mhz. Surely if they are tuned to the right frequency, there can't be any differences to make it not work?

    Cheers,
    Chris

Be careful with some of these key fobs off ebay.
They are cheap copies that have a different "blade" arrangement, or different shaped "hole" where the key blade goes in.
They look good, they work on the same frequency, but they won't fit your D2 blade

    Mines more the preverbial happens

    All

I have 2003 D2. From this info alone you would assume it's a 433Mhz key. I also looked in Micorcat and also said 433Mhz. And from this point plus the various information from this forum and other websites pretty sure the part would be CWE100680KIT. I would be surpirsed if anyone thought differently at this point.

Guess what? It would not program to the car. (brand new from the UK). The chaps in the UK are obviously very cheap, give very good service and pretty sure they're closely tied to Land Rover. Anyhow had a chat to them and they believe the key is the wrong part number. Should have been CWE100690KIT as LAND ROVER UK (The Mother) said CWE100680KIT is for the UK only. Now there are many people on this forum who don't agree so don't worry about posting to say you don't agree, already know. Anyhow the next key has just landed and I'll give it a go otherwise I'll be trying a 315 Mhz which once again proves Microcat to be a little hit and miss.

It's a possibilty that the manufacturer of the new key has also stuffed up by labelling it incorrectly but time will tell.

All the time in the world

    Thanks mate.

Yeah, I noticed that some of the blades were a bit strange looking. The blades that I've bought are genuine LR products and it seems that these are all the seller actually sells. Everyone that has bought one has said that they are perfect.
The FOB cases are Valeo, so they should fit together with no problems. Again, this seller has good feedback about the FOBS.

As for the complete FOB and blank key combo that I've bought, this is also genuine LR product.

I know you don't want to hear it but we've sold around 100 of CWE100680KIT in the last 2 years.

As I've said before, CWE100690KIT has never been listed by Land Rover Australia. I don't know where your chaps in the UK get their info but it isn't from Land Rover.

Further to this, I've tracked down some further info regarding the different keys that are available and their part numbers. See below.

    CWE100680KIT - 433.92Mhz (NRML or LHD, Europe)
    CWE100720KIT - 315Mhz (LHD-KOR, RHD-J)
    CWE100700KIT - 315Mhz (AUS)
    CWE100690KIT - 433.92Mhz (LHD, Europe)
    CWE100710KIT - 315Mhz (LHD-RI)
    CEW100710KIT - 315Mhz (LHD-CDN/MEX/USA)

The Discovery 2 BCU can take upto 4 remotes plus a 5th Air Suspension Remote. You need the barcode label pictured to program any of these remotes to the BCU. This is done using T4/Testbook/Nanocom/Rovacom.

Here's hoping that I've been sent CWE100700KIT - 315Mhz (AUS)... I've just emailed the seller to find out what he sent and Brookwells in the UK also emailed me saying that it should be CWE100700KIT.

    Fingers crossed.

    ****z and Giggles

I'm pretty sure I'm getting this next key from the UK just for ****z and giggles.

Then onto the 315s. I can only hope the 680 key I had was 680 and not package/labelled incorrectly.

By the way you don't need the barcode, there is a white label inside the key with the numbers required to program the key.

Scouse - The advice apparently was from Land Rover UK.

    Regards
    Andrew
