I replaced my OE springs with King Springs in March '10.
The standard springs had sagged (476mm at front, 478mm at rear) and the ride was ordinary.
The new springs gave new ride heights of 515mm front (KRFS-06) and 495mm rear (KRRS-04).
The standard ride heights as per the LR specs are front 485-515mm and rear 468-498mm. This means that the new springs lifted the D2 to about the max ride height as per the standard specs.
I recon the new springs ride beautifully compared to the tired old OE springs. They are much more compliant and seem to have OK articulation also. Only downside is that the D2 does look down in the rear end as per your comments. Also, when we loaded up for a holiday recently (rear area packed to the roof plus camped trailer), the rear springs dropped to 460mm.
I have considered fitting some coil spacers to the rear to make the vehicle sit more even, but I don't see how I can do this without having to go to longer shocks?? I am still on OE shocks but want to go to some Billies soon but haven't stumped up the $$$ yet.
I also have to sort out a solution for loaded camping trips. The vehicle spends most of its time empty so I don't necessarily want harsh heavy duty springs in the rear all of the time. May have to consider something like some Polyairs??
Cheers,
Chris
CJC why dont you try a set of poly airbags or coil rite bags for your towing then pump them up when needed and let them down when driving around normally. im going this now just got to work out the better of the 2 and they will be fitted makes towing and large weights so much better.
Thought about that Disco97 but the set I had on the D1 sat a little higher(Also progressive) in the rear and when loaded with a average load and full tank the car sat level, and thats what I paid for!!!!,also front articulation was much better, these front springs belong in a sports car:eek:,anyway.....Ineed a liedown:)
sorry to hear about your springs 3-Gees,
but theres a whole bunch of us SLS'ers quietly giggling in the corner--
:lol2:
take it with a kind heart,,
we dont get to giggle very often;):D
Thanks Pedro:D,my mates 00'd2 has bags and I think I can hear a faint chuckle back in Brissy!!.Alls not lost though, was privalliged to get a 50km cab ride in a 48'class loco yesterday, pure Alco magic from the 70"s:Dlots of smoke on accelleration and a turbo thats deafening, all at 900rpm max!!!!:p
PICS!!!:o
I don't have any of in the cab Peter, was too busy videoing and hanging on:D!!,I'm in bathurst tonight but when I get home on friday I'll put some up.....:)
I had the same difference in hub to guard measurements with King Springs in the disco2. I ran 20mm shims in the rear which gave a 40mm lift in the front and a 50mm lift in the rear and leveled the vehicle. The Disco2 is naturally lower in the rear which improves the handling balance. The King springs that I think you have are a soft variable rate rear spring in comparison to most other manufacturers.
:eek:I think your right Slunnie, but I tell you,it doesn't handle any better with the new ones,if anything its less stable:(,but that could be the roads im driving on???,we'll se what options they give me when I get back,
cheers Gregg:)
