    Hey guys.

Trying to make head and tail of this.

I dont really know what's under the Disco currently as I have only owned it just over a week and it's now being transported to Darwin.

I know the rear had SLS and the running gear is still in place but the Bags have been replaced with springs and Poly air. I had another idea with the coils and Poly air but I have been convicened it wont work so I'm going to reinstate the original SLS Bags.

It has a non-winch Alloy bull bar which I will modify myself and add a winch.

From the trip driven from Brisbane to Canberra, I know the front end is too soft, both in spring and dampening. I'm not keen to add height but I want to maintain Std height even with the extra weight up front. I have been looking at Dobinsons Springs and cant find Std height, heavy springs but have found 2" lift, Std and 2" Lift Heavy. I'm thinking the 2" lift Std weight springs should drop to close to standard with the weight of the bull bar and winch.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking of AK7110SB06Bilstein 7100 Series Shocks: 10 inch Travel Reservoir - Reservoir Shock - Short Body (8 Inch) - 360/80 all round.

Will these shocks have the right drop for the bags in the rear or will I need to 2" spacers?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Happy Days.

As a comparison, I'm running Lovells +2" HD's, had them before I fitted the winch which was first without bar and then with a custom bar then the xrox. Has always handled very well plus been comfortable plus has kept the height at the required level plus the car has stayed level even with the added weight.

If you're going up 2" art the front you'll need to add spacers to the rear or it'll be down at the stern. Shock length vs drop and height is dependent on what you want to achieve. A longer drop will allow front spring dislocation and more travel but will need relocation devices to help the springs back into place. The back will need to be limited or you'll rip the bags out.

I'd stick to the coils since you have it setup that way already and it should keep it simpler.

What about adding 2" but not HD. I'd expect them to drop 2" with the weight of the bar and winch. This would make std height.

    Happy days.

Sorry edited above post with answers but you'd need to check the spring rate but I wouldn't expect 2" even from std with a bar and winch, especially with the alloy bar.

Will these short body 8 inch shocks limit the travel enough to prevent the SLS bags being ripped out or will I need some other limiting device?

What does it usually use to limit travel with a std setup?

I'm not a fan of using the shocks as your limit device. Maybe revert to a series strap setup?

As far as I know it's limited by the shock. I currently have springs but all the running gear is still in place and I'm taking it back to bags. It was changed to springs by the previous owner. I just know it needs to be limited otherwise when you lift a wheel, rather than the wheel lifting the weight of the wheel will just pull the end out of the bag.

I know its not good to have shock travel thats shorter than the spring travel as the springs will just push the ends out of the shocks.

    Happy Days.

Shocks limit travel in all setups. Well rears atleast. Coils dont limit travel unless they are clamped in.
On the rear. If you do have coils now. Disconnect the shock and flex the car up. It will exceed the travel of the shocks no problem. Unless your currently running a big lift, in which case there might be some binding in the suspension joints.

Fronts on the other hand will have the suspension bushes on the radius arms bind up before you run out of shock travel.
