Ah, thanks for that. The operating voltages are more like 14.5V, but even that wouldn't equate to 30A. Maybe we should all be fitting 15A fuses to help pump life? Maybe worth a thought.
ALFLOC make a fuel treatment, Wynns EDT, and a few other ones on the mrket are good products. I use the EDT.

I got 12.6V when i tested the power to the pump today.
Is that just because it was off the battery only - i.e. if the engine and therefore the alternator were running the voltage would rise to 14.5V ?

Want to make sure there is not an electrical component to my problem.

Is there a maximum earth resistance measurement that is reccommmended from a component to the negetive terminal on the battery? I want to be sure of my earth return.

Yes, actually 12.6V is very good at the pump with a battery at rest. Voltages running will be UP to 14.5V.

Typically, an earth connection should have very low, or NO resistance. High resistance = heat generated = volt drop.

Had a pump issue with my BIL's Td5 recently - and we used rubber mallet to give the tank a god whack from underneath the vehicle. Give it a try, it might just do the trick.

my 1999 td5 manual did exactly the same thing(had to be towed home) except the fuel filter light was on after replacing the fuel filter (which made no differnce) whilst trying to find best price on a fuel pump, i found wire in the wiring harness that had melted earthing out on the pipe that goes from the exhaust manifold to the egr valve at the front of the engine some tape end back going now looking for the wiring harness

Put a new fuel pump in this arvo and.....

I sourced one cheepish from a english parts wholesaler locally - shipped overnight from Sydney.
I could of got it cheaper from the UK (see DISCOCAM's reply) but i needed the car going this week.

I will dismantle the old pump to try and see where it went wrong and post it up.
