You are doing it wrong: you should not be losing speeds when climbing a dune until you crest, so somewhere along the line you are either in the wrong gear or your run-up is not fast enough.

Deflate to 1 bar, choose the correct gear, do a proper run-up and you will be fine :)

Yes, you sort of can control it. This was sort of touched on in an earlier post. I have a 99 D2 so not sure about D2a. If you engage centre diff lock and turn off the motor then on again you will have turned off the TC. I have fitted a cable to engage my diff lock so I had to cut a wire to the ECU to prevent turning off the TC. I guess you could do the same except fit a switch to this cut wire to the ECU in the passenger foot well. A search will turn up which wire that gets cut but if you are having difficulty sorting this out then PM me. Again this only applies if you are using the centre diff lock in an early D2.

Shall I go look for an egg and pucker up??????? Think advice on how to drive in sand is the last thing i need.....

I live in the biggest sand dune in the country mate. Just to reiterate my previous post, in the Rangie I have no issues climbing the same dunes as it has no TC.

My Disco is a D2a, it does not switch off the TC with the CDL engaged. In MY03 on models it alters the parameters only but it still remains active unless you pull the fuse controlling the ABS.

Hi Andrew,

I would have thought that you didn't have TC working on that weekend as your left front sensor was disconnected. In that case you didn't get up because TC was not working.:angel::wasntme:

My D2 with TC working and no CDL fitted didn't get stuck on any of the climbs. I am planning on fixing the lack of CDL via a visit to Ashcroft in Luton in early Jan. One way of beating shipping charges is to have it hand delivered...:D Looks like a white Christmas for me.

Have had D2's with CDL,& without,(all have TC)never had any problems in the sand,or anywhere else for that matter.Also done a lot of sand driving with people with other vehicles without TC,& they have never had an advantage,many times the D2 would power through where they had stopped.:)

The only vehicle that regularly seems better in the sand than the D2 is the son's Puma,& it has TC as well.

The ABS is what i find a PITA as often on dirt roads it just doesn't want to STOP!

Better ground clearance and bigger rubber on the Puma would give it a slight edge.

Nope, TC worked all day after the reset with the Hawkeye. Only cacked itself again just last Tuesday and now the lights stay on :(

Maybe I shouldn't have reset it!!

The only landy that I have seen beat a D2 and Puma in the sand is the D4. On road tyres deflated at 1.2, the D2s and Pumas were on BFT ATs at 1.0 bar.

that D4 is impressive!

Mate - interesting. What size wheels and how deep and soft was the sand. Here there are conflicting and mixed reports about the bigger LR's (D3/D4) and the ones that fair worst in the comments stakes are the ones (naturally) with the 19 inch wheels.
