Good one fella, hope she comes back soon as good as new :)
Good move, mine is going back after Xmas to get the bottom end rebuilt!
The bloke I bought my motor off was obviously trying to save some coin & has now FULLY rebuilt the top end chasing my oil consumption issue but with no success. I thought it had already been done but turns out only one bank had been done originally instead of both & with the issue not sorted the only other explanation is bottom end :)
He's visually not happy but hey, you can't win all the time :) He's set himself & his business apart from the rest by offering 12 months warranty instead of the usual 3 months & now, for once, the consumer ( that'd be me :) has had a win...
Wow... Sounds like a real pain. Here's hoping yours gets all sorted out. Nothing worse than knowing there's something wrong with an engine.
Good to hear about your warranty too, very handy for instances such as yours and mine!
I've been watching this and I must say your a very patient man Sully, gotta love the outcome though, persistence and patients pay off, oh and a good car dealer help too.
Good luck, not a good way to be introduced into the world of Land Rovers, but looks like it may be all good now.
Baz.
To say it has been a pain is definitly an understatement but, again, out if the ordinary, when he had the car last time I told him it was impossible to run a business & kids around without the second car so he set me up with a hire car whilst the disco was off the road. He seems genuine enough but it's always in the back of my mind that I'm again going to get burnt.
Hey guys and gals.
Well, the Disco is finally back after being away getting repaired for a month. I have no idea why it took that long, but I didn't complain seeing as though it was getting fixed for free.
So, the dealer decided to bypass his own mechanic and sent it off to Range-Rov out in Vermont. I'm very happy that it's been repaired at a LR specialist.
So this is what it's had done:
2 x composite head gaskets
Machined heads
Valley gasket
2 x curved rocker cover gaskets
2 x exhaust flanges
6 x long head bolts
14 x short head bolts
6 x exhaust studs
2 x moulded end valley seals
Timing cover seal
6 x exhaust nuts
Oleon anti freeze/boil
In/out heater hose assembly
8 x spark plugs
Phew....!
Quite a bit of work there.
First thing I did was crawl underneath the car and it's as clean as a whistle and as dry as a nuns nasty on Sunday. ;)
The car feels really tight and so much smoother to drive. It's also running a hell of a lot cooler, not by the temp gauge, but by the physical heat you can feel coming from the engine bay and transmission tunnel during and after run.
I'll def keep an eye on it now to ensure there's no further leaks, but it seems like a good job was done.
Now that this is all done and dusted, I'm more than happy to name the dealer that's been so helpful in getting this fixed when he didn't need to. The guys name I was dealing with is Graham and the dealership is Paul Bradley Motors. They are part of the Car City complex out in Ringwood. Highly recommended for backing their product and caring for their customers.
Now, onto the continual sprucing and upgrading of the disco!
Don't know about roadworthiness requirments in Twoheads but in Qld an oil leak is an oil leak no matter how small a leak. Qld Transport are red hot on oil leaks when they do roadside random inspections, no tolerance whatsoever, and competent non-shonky RWC inspectors know this. Some may tell you to wipe off a small leak whilst they are not looking but that is about the limit of tolerance in my experience. Best to thoroughly clean everything just before you take the car for inspection.
Great to hear mate, best of luck in future!:)
