    Diagnosis from LR

    Heres what LR have found:

    Coolant leak from timing case gasket.
    Oil leaks from cylinder heads, inlet manifold and transfer case.

    Does the quote from LR sound on the money compared to the above.

    Coolant leaks from timing case, yes common. Oil leaks from head gaskets, not really possible. Rocker covers yes though. Inlet manifold/ valley seals leaking yes, transfer case seals yes very likely.

    220K? sounds like normal V8 issues to me.

    I would be surprised if they fix it under warranty, most of these 'arrangements' expressly deny claims for leaks.

    Good luck maybe get a Quote from an independent repairer? There IS a lot of labour involved in those jobs, at $120+ an hr you will easily see those prices IMHO.

    Thanks JC. I'm not too concerned about the warranty, more that the dealer sold me a car that was supposed to have a road worthy certificate and was supposed to be serviced before receiving it. All of this should have been picked up and failed on a rwc inspection.

    Warranty or no warranty the dealer shouldn't have delivered it in this condition.

    Ah, yes sorry I read too quickly. That is true to a point, but there is a blurry line sometimes between roadworthiness when it comes to the degree of coolant and oil leaks as to what is acceptable and what isn't. These leaks are very common to V8 D2's, in fact almost all have them to some degree. It is difficult to comment without actually seeing the vehicle, but I'd hazard a guess and say get a second opinion from an AIS, as to whether the vehicle would be roadworthy by THEIR standards, and take the report to the selling dealer if it proves helpful.


    At the end of the day, it is still unfortunately up to them to make good or not, as they see fit unless it fails an independent AIS inspection, and if that happens then go in armed with that info.

    Consumer Affairs is who I'd be calling & make sure you've got the name of the guys that did the RWC, chances are they are independent of the actual dealer mate.
