Thread: Winch to suit ARB Deluxe bar

Stevo, go for the Tigerz11, they have some excellent deals with plasma rope. And pretty much every low mount winch will fit the arb deluxe.

Thanks mate...but what are they like though....good wrap? Im not adverse to spending a little more if I have to.....but not Warn prices ,

Hey mate,

just be a little careful with the latest Tigerz11 winches, some of them seem to be too long for some bars. Especially the newer design and 2 speed ones. There have been a few for sale on various forums, as I assume they didn't fit after purchase.

We have a Warn xd9000 in the Sahara bar on ours.

4WD Action did a big winch comparison about 18months ago and the premier winch performed best. If I were buying a winch I'd be looking for one which provided a water seal for the clutch engagement. I have a magnum winch (it was cheap and I regret it now) where the clutch engagement selector provides virtually no seal. So, every time you go through water, if the winch is hot, it sucks in water and you have to pull the winch apart to clean and dry out! Mine rusted and froze.

My solution was to buy a waterproof draw string bag from a hiking shop the diameter of which is just a little larger than the gearbox drum diameter and put it over the drum. I sealed it using a stainless steel 'bandit' strap. The loose bag allows you to operate the cluch engagement switch.

More expensive winches may provide a better water seal. But pulling the winch down every time I go off road is ridiculous. Others may have better solutions.

Thanks Mal....yep am trying to find that copy somewhere in the house. I'd rather get something pretty decent from the get go as I have about as much mechanical aptitude as a gnat , though fortunate to have good mates who are mech whizzes

If you can't find the mag, let me know and I'll try and find mine and scan you a copy. You can go onto their website and search through past articles to get the mag number, too.

I have had a "cheap" winch for a while, whilst it has been fine and even after all the swimming its done it has had no water ingress at all (impressed tbh) but Im a sucker for "names" and recently bagged a Warn XDC from Ebay, a month old an looks like new.
