Pre 2000 Discovery 2s versus post 2000, any thoughts?

    Hey guys,

I'd love to hear what people have to say about specific years in the Discovery 2s. I've seen a couple of 99's around that look nice, but I'm coming from a 2001 D2 and know nothing of what they did to update them and when.

I need a 7 seater and don't like the sideways seats in the back. Min 2001 had the more modern front facing fold ups and that's what I want. What year did these come in?

More importantly, what pitfalls might I expect in slightly older vehicles.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers

    Wil

Will all D2's had the extra space in the back and forward facing third row.

Yes it was 1999. Earlier 1999 discovery were D1 with central facing seats, later 1999 discovery was the D2 with two forward facing 3rd row seats so if you get a 1999 disco with third row seats just check it was a D2 not a D1.

For post 2000 models - 02 Disco's don't have CDL (Centre Diff Lock) as LR thought the traction control would suffice.

I might add that unless you are stuck on a TD5 - there is still some good quality Tdi's going quite cheap and, the range of after market parts and accessories is still very good!
    Just some food for thought

As has been said the seats in the rear changed in 1999 when the D2's appeared.

I only have experience with my 2000 model and other than the CDL internals disappearing in 2001 and 2002 then there was not a lot of difference I believe until the D2a appeared in 2003.

Happy to be corrected by others more knowledgeable.

Thanks! The extra space seals the deal, gotta be a D2 for me. I figured out my confusion. Bloody caryards putting up the wrong pics on their listings on drive.com.au and carsales.com.au. I found a beauty yesterday, they'd put up pics of a 5 seater with completely different interior trim on a 7 seater's ad. Grrr.

If that's the case that's great. I don't mind missing out on the CDL, though it would be nice to have it for the future.

I'm guessing that the TDi only appeared in the D1. We're gonna need the extra space and the forward facing 3rd row, so I guess that counts out any TDi vehicles.

Thanks for everyone's input. This has been a bloody disaster and I really want to make sure I buy smart on the replacement.

There have been a couple of well priced D2a pop up over the last couple of days in my searches, but they're just a little bit more than I've got to play with . I'll keep hunting.

    Cheers

Dont leave yourself short,, buying a bargain is sometimes a false economy--
The Td5 will keep you and your wallet on its toes,,

You need to know what your looking at in photos,, DONT rely on salesmen for anything--
Can you tell an ACE model by the engine photo?
can you tell a 7 seater from the rear?
If it has leather and 12 speakers must it be an SE?

    Extra space?
I hope you mean extra seats,,
with all 7 seats taken any ladies handbags have to follow in a trailer,,

Did you mean the TDi? Or the TD5?

The Td5 vehicles I'm looking at sure don't qualify as "bargains" for the most part.
