Hill decent does a better job than the operator simply because we cannot brake separate wheels and it can. I find my V8 manual has excellent low range first braking and can carry a very low idle speed without stalling - that helps.
When I slot the vehicle back into high range from low the HDC will chime its head off until you turn it off. Apart from that it will not chime going into locked centre diff.

Have just talked with British 4x4 autos in Adelaide as they activated the CDL for me. They are a bit confused as to the cause too. I am taking the car in next week to check for fault codes and hopefully find out what may be the culprit. If the answer may assist others I will post it once I know.
Oh, re the suspension, I rang Dobinsons and asked which springs should be in the rear of a D2 to achieve a 2" lift. I have spring product code C51-017 which they sated is not the right spring. They say it should be either a C51 -022 or -027 as per their list on their website which is used by companies/individuals for ordering. It appears that the 4x4 shop that installed mine ordered the incorrect springs so I am talking to them about that. C51-017s are not recommended for a D2 anywhere in their documentation. Once again thanks for the responses to date.

On another note; are you able to "disable" your traction control by engaging CDL first and then starting the car? I have read about this "technician mode" and heard of other drivers being able to perform it via the correct sequence however I cannot seem to be able to replicate it and wondered if you were able to.

I find 1st low in the auto too slow sometimes and 2nd is the way to go, and this is on some steep hills aswell. Only use the HDC to give the ABS a work out.Quote:

This is only applies to the SLABS ECU's fitted to pre-facelift D2's, and is actually a reduced performance mode which disables ETC and degrades ABS, EBD and HDC performance. Locking the CDL with the later ECU's enables revised parameters for ETC, ABS, EBD, and HDC to suit the locked differential.
