    Bias Plate

Put in a new bias plate & springs the other day as the spring stop on the plate had snapped off. I noticed that 2nd through 3rd isn't that smooth, can the bias plate be adjusted or does it sound like my gears are wearing?

I had the bias plate out of my LT77 gearbox yesterday (fixing a stiff shifter issue). While it was out I fired up the mig welder and put a bit of weld on the corners of the bend to stop some fine cracking that was occuring.

Refitment of the plate was easy, refitment of the springs was a lot harder. To adjust it I followed some instructions I found via google. Put the shifter into 4th gear and hold tension on the gear lever to the right. Tighten the bias plate bolts and test shifter operation.

I found using this technique got the shifter operation spot on, but I am not sure if the R380 adjustment is the same given that reverse is in a different spot.

The holes in mine were slightly slotted for adjustment. An online search showed that LT77 and R380 bias plates were the same part number, so I can't see why the R380 one would be any different.

yes this seems to explain it pretty clearly, I noticed there are meant to be washers under those bolts & I have none, are they metal or rubber? The top left bolt in that diagram looks like it has a rubber washer under it?

Mine had metal washers under the 4 bias plate bolts. Be aware that if you take the spring retaining bolts it is quite difficult to get them back in with the springs in place.
