    Phenolic spacers for TD5

    Hello,
I have been doing little things to my TD5 which make it go better for some time, VNT included, and some good gains here and there. The next little thing I want to do is get a Phenolic spacer laser cut from bakelite good for up to about 250C for the inlet manifold. The reason being after a good run open the bonnet and hold your hand on the manifold very hot these will stop the heat soak, cooler air more power. No point having a huge intercooler then heats up again here.

I got a few prices but it seems better to get 20 cut at pnce than just one.

So far still waiting on another quote seems like it will be around the $150 mark each.

So if there is some interest in them better to get the 20 made.
If anyone out there wants one please PM me.

With the thickness being either 6-8mm the bolts would have to be replaced as I have looked at mine already.

FYI - Theory good... But take your vehicle for a drive from cold and stop after 5 minutes..

The heat in the inlet manifold seems to be from the air inlet mroe than the head.

Will watch your progress with interest.

Won't make enough of a difference. It's not so much the heatsoak from being mounted to the head, it's the hot air from the radiator and general ambient engine bay temp when running that will heat it up plus the final temp after the intercoolers done its job. Ceramic coating or thermal wrapping would be more beneficial but at the end of the day still not really worth the $$ and effort for what essentially will be immeasurable gains.

One thing I would do if you haven't already is remove the acoustic cover and leave it off. This alone stops heatsoak in the upper engine area.

    Cheers
