    D2 V8 operating temps

The D2 V8s run very hot by design,
just wondering if its possible to run a lower temp thermostat,
    [do they even make one?]
    and if they do--
at what temp does a V8 think its warmed up?

No. The engine needs the stat to be the correct one. If not. It thinks it's cold and runs richer. Very common fault on over use if fuel. Wrong stat. The computer can't be tricked otherwise.

    Bloody good question Pedro.
Tricking the V8 into thinking it was at running temp when it was actually a few degrees cooler would do wonders for things like liners & gaskets

I often though if that was possible.
Assuming u could get a thermastat at a lower temp.

you could trick the computer by applying the appropriate resistor in line or in parrallel with the temp sensor depending on which way the sensor worked in order to trick it into believing the temp was correct, for a certain temp range. Maybe an issue for the entire temp range though, and hence when its cold, actually still think its warm to hot when its cold.

Might create issues with initial cold startup & idle etc. I'd imagine stalling & major lack of power initially would come into play?

Now there is no good reason an adjustable thermo switch (davies craig? etc) couldn't switch a resistor into the temp circuit when the engine has reached your temp of choice.

    Define hot...

It's only thermal shedding via the alloy that makes it seem hotter than most engines.

They run cooler than a lot I've seen.

If you mean hot x 100'c then thats not a realistic view.

Well ... I've done this to my RRC and also can be done to the D1

I'll let you guy's figure out how to apply it to a D2

Mine runs around 93-96 even in this weather. Even with Air con on. In fact since fitting the winch behind the original bar and closing off the lower duct (not that it did anything for cooling) it's running slightly cooler.

    hot,,
before the D2 the hottest thermostat you could get was 88,, but cooler ones were available.
The D2 doesnt open till around 96, which leaves very little in reserve,
I know why they run so hot,,
but I'm more concerned about my engine than CO2 levels,,,

and I just had a quick squiz through Tridon's website and there are very few hotter than 96,,

    and great job Mike,
