If I remember rightly you need to take out the clevis pin again, extend the lever upwards then press button to get ratchet to flip or be moved to the right position, then bring it down into position whilst still holding the button in. It was a while ago now...!

Problem solved
Hi all,
Just an update on what the problem was.
As previously mentioned, the cam flips over when you extend the handbrake lever to the verticle. If you don't detect this and correct it before lowering the lever then the wire actuating rod gets bent as the cam is forced over the ratchet the wrong way...

This bend causes the rod at the end of the lever to become offset and causes the release button to bind.

Now by using a pair of long nosed pliers, the rod can be pulled forward to reverse the bend.

With the final result like this:

With the rod now centred again it all worked as before. The button glides easily again and the "Park brake" was back in operation.:D:D:D:D
I hope this helps some one else down the track.

I've just done the same thing :(
How do you get all the trim off the hand brake to get the button out and see where the rod is?
For mine there was no excessive force and I only noticed a problem when could not connect the handbrake cable as the rod was in the way.

Ive just had the same problem.
Rschipp's pics and instructions were spot on. I couldnt fix it until i had taken the button off the end to ensure the rod was centred.
Thanks :)

I was surprised by how easy it was to bend the rod.

Great help with the pics above. Lifted my handbrake vertical whilst removing the console and after realising the bar had flipped over and putting that right the handbrake would not latch.
Pulled off the trim, removed button and sure enough bar not centered. Quick push to middle with pliers and works like a dream.
Thx for the help.

Missing pictures
I know this is an old post but any chance of reposting the pictures of the hand brake fix as the original ones are gone and I still cannot figure how to fix mine with the same problem.
cheers
