disco 2 tdi intermittant knock
I have a very small knock which is felt thru the accelerator pedal. It is intermittent and more noticeable when vehicle is cold. It will happen at any speed with constant pressure on the accelerator so is not governed by engine speed or road speed. It is entirely at random. It sometimes happens at acceleration or deceleration at low speed but I cannot replicate the knock stationary by changing from reverse to drive. It happens more often at between 10kph and 25kph but once again is intermittent....

Hi Ross welcome to the forum.
A little clarification please. D2 diesels are TD5 and have fly by wire throttle.
D1 are Tdi.
Which do you have?
If it is a D1 you will likely get better results in the D1 section
cheers

If your vehicle is a TD5 (and so a D2), it may well have the Active Cornering Enhancement system optioned. This hydraulic system greatly reduces body-roll in corners and is computer controlled.
If ACE is fitted the engine-bay hydraulic reservoir will have two filler caps, one with a steering-wheel, the other shows a "rocking car" graphic for the ACE.
The ACE valve body is under the driver's side floor. The valves sometimes operate when driving, the reason is unclear, especially when driving flat, straight roads. Maybe it is a self-test function?
Perhaps this is the noise/knock you are noticing. My vehicle has done this for the 5 years I have owned it, with no ill effects or fault codes.
Just a thought.
Jason.

Does a self test valve shuttle every 4 mins.
Some are more noticable than others. Check the brake lines to see if any debris is caught in between the chassis & lines, can cause knock vibration pretty badly.

Thank you for this info. Yes it has ACE and it does sound like this could be the cause as the noise doesn't seem to be getting any worse over the last 2 years. it is just anoying hence the reson in trying to trace the cause
Am having the front drive shaft checked and also all the bushes connected to the ACE ram.

ACE Knocking
An interesting post Ross. Thanks.
I have wondered about this issue for some time now. I know it's a valve somewhere. Just yeterday my amber ACE light came on so I did some investigating. It turns out I had a dirty connection on the pressure control valve. Once I put 2 and 2 together I came up with 3
. The info in this thread now sets my mind at rest. It is the ACE unit and cetainly nothing to worry about.
Cheers,
Vince.
