No imagination Bob,mine used to shudder if you coasted to a stop with the clutch in,with the egr gone ,that has dissapeared,along with a miss while idling,very happy engine now:D,also as you say it pulls from about 1500rpm now whereas before anything under 2000 it was pretty hopeless:eek:.In my opinion,it's the best single mod you can do to the car,manifold deposits were scary and the oil stays much cleaner:)

Interesting, Gregg. It seems the effect of the egr on the vehicle could be more than what was intended. I wonder if the head gasket issues , and overheating , could be related? My disco is like a frisky pony now.[ wish the missus had an egr :D] Bob

Say Bob10 what kit did you end up using? I know that a clean out of the intercooler and hoses is part of the service routine but to date I have been too lazy to tackle it. If any one has done this did you find it a big job or what?
Bought the kit from our local independant rover dealer.Came supplied with new flange and pipe connected to the inlet manifold, new gasket for same, new blanking plate for exhaust side of things, 6 new allen headed bolts. Did not come with rubber cap, to blank off the plastic "t"piece on the vacuum hose, which is necessary if you are removing the total egr system. Supa-cheap have 4 mm. caps , 6 to a bag [$4] I found a bit from a "torx" nut removal set connected to my socket set extension much better than an allen key for removal of the two allen headed bolts on the exhaust side of things. What was a great help to me was the tutorial I found on this site, comes complete with pictures, just search " egr removal" Bob
I ordered a 5Alive EGR kit last night because on our secound Disco TD5 the 'clean' air system seems to be quite thick with oily residue.
I know it hasnt been driven much in the last few years and then was mostly doing short trip so knowing this and that exhaust air in to the clean air system is not a good thing prompted me to do this.
I am intending to pull the intercooler and hoses soon and maybe even the inlet manifold to give them all a clean.
However, after getting through all the above, am I worrying un-nessicarily about insurance? should they be told?

The td5alive kit are nicely finished. I fitted one last year to my vehicle.
As for insurance, its entirely up to you I think. It is certainly not classed as a performance modification. I like to think of it as engine preservation.
It does not change the handling or safety characteristics of the vehicle.
Other than changing the emission output by er.....not much at all really, it is no different to fitting a washable air filter. They claim to increase performance but without other major mods they really don't achieve anything noticable.

Installed the kit last night, was pretty easy, had to be sure to get onteh allen headed bolts square though, that was a bit tricky with the tooling that I have.
the hardest part was finding the 8mm socket that fell down some where.... 1 hr later....
Any way, the next job will definitaly be to pull and clean the intercooler, the hoses (probably replace) and the inlet manifold.
the amount of oily residue was shocking, way too much for my liking

TD5 EGR kits can be had for £45. :) However, from what I pick up, am I right in saying that you are not meant to blank them off? In the early days of TD5 we used to uses a core-plug which was the right size to bung up the pipe. It worked a treat, and still looked like the EGR valve was fitted. Not that that was a problem as we can take these off without a problem, but this was in the days before EGR kits were readily available.
