do it sound like a good buy, got service history?
Hi all,
I posted something similar to this in the general chat but got told to post here instead.
I'm on the verge of buying a 99 Disco 2 manual V8. It has 110,000km on it and a good service history. I think it's worth more but he (a family friend) is willing to give it to me for $5000 (largely because he doesn't want to waste his weekends and afternoons with potential buyers).
What should I be looking for next time I check it out?
Am I right in thinking it's a good deal?
The plan is to convert it to LPG which will probably take me about 18 months to pay off (in terms of fuel savings).
Great forum here. I've already learnt a lot by reading through the old posts. Can't wait to join the LR team and become an active member!

Have a look at the thread very recently posted titled-Advise on buying a D2 V8 manual. Everything in regards to obtaining opinions & what to look for is pretty clearly stated in here. Hello & welcome, IMHO, $5000 is cheap & I personally wouldn't buy a car from mate, but, if your confident your family friend will continue to be a family friend for years to come, only u can make that call. I'd love a manual but am more than happy with my V8 auto, alot of blood sweat, tears & coin later
Good luck & keep us posted.
Cheers

Hi mate,
Sounds like a cheap buy, personally I would be careful buying off friends, but if you know how they have treated it then that helps. Check alll the usual items eg. fluid levels, colour of oil, check coolant is pink (OAT coolant), look for oil leaks (LR's have a few leaks but should not be excessive). Also check underneath at front drive shaft (double cardan joint common problem), check suspension (chances are it is worn out). Maybe you could get a LR specialist to check it out for you. Good luck.
Cheers Matt
If it's any opinion you want: here's mine.
Providing the motor/gearbox is okay and the body is straight, I'd say go for it. Anything else can be repaired relatively cheap. Buying it for $5,000 will leave a lot of room for spending, before your out of pocket.![]()

Mate having owned an 02 D2 Manual V8 since new I can add that that is a hell of a lot of truck for $5k - just make sure he gets the Safety Cert as part of the deal. By law he needs to if selling regd. All comments above are good advice about service history etc.
Cheers
