    Auto trans needed in Brisbane

G'day all, once again i find myself in need of some expert advice on the disco 2 so here i am. I desperately require another auto transmission (2004, D2-V8) as it seems mine doesnt want to work with a gaping hole in the casing !!!
I was driving south on the motorway just past Coomera, sitting on 120 clicks when all of a sudden there was a loud bang followed by a ****load of smoke coming from underneath. Pulling over i looked under the 'ol girl only to find that the rear uni on my front driveshaft had let go and the flailing shaft had belted everything in its path- including the transmission casing. Turns out that smoke was formerly my ATF before it hit the exhaust.
Mad as hell considering she went in for a major service at a LR dealership only 3 months ago and nothing was noted about unijoint freeplay - obviously didnt even grease the uni joints let alone inspect them for play...... money well spent, grrrrr
Anyway i'm new to Brisbane and need to source a new trans, any ideas as to what to expect to pay for New, Recond and/or 2nd Hand????
Oh and i need a new driveshaft too, as she took a battering....
Any help with who to contact or where to look would be greatly appreciated.

How big is the hole? I had the same thing occur, except front driveshaft. Admittedly, it was more an indent, and crack than a hole. I used a metal putty (cant remember which one) about 25000km ago, and no problems since.

    Redslayer,

I have a spare HP22 which is advertised in the market section of this forum. I have just sold my D2 so it is of no use to me any more.

Grumndriva - i am currently looking into locating another casing and swapping internals over - spoke with a guy at Jag Rover Spares and he put me in touch with Graham at Western Suburbs Automatics who has a trans casing, have to split mine first though, not sure if alloy from the casing went through internals yet so i dont know the full extent of the damage. I will definately look you up if i need it though - Cheers.

Hamish, mine was also front driveshaft but it was the rear universal that let go,left a hole i could almost put my fist through...... i appreciate the suggestion but i dont think im going to be able to band aid this one with putty.........if only.

Glad to hear yours is still going strong 25000 kms later, good stuff that putty.

Probably Murray you were talking to. He has 3 or 4 cars coming in a couple of weeks to wreck, they may have good autos in them as well

Cannon - thanks mate, yeah i saw that one on ebay last night, mine is a 2004 though so not sure if its compatible. Got the numbers for M.R. and British Offroad from another thread here, i was put onto a guy at Rocklea that might have a casing i can use but it depends on the condition of my internals and whether the metal from the casing went through it or not.
    Cheers for the suggestions.
